I did it. I got through the entire series and found things to enjoy, but I had to slog through a lot of infuriating things. There were many chapters where I started just skipping paragraphs or pages to get past annoying bullshit. By book 6 I started considering audiobooks at 2x speed but didn't.

Literally spent hours just reading the most 1-dimensional girls talking about boys, and the most 1-dimensional boys shaking their heads about girls. Like, what are we even doing here? Entire plot threads could have been eliminated by ONE character asking ONE Reasonable question.

Okay, I'm just gonna say it. The Wheel of Time is garbage. I sat down and read the entire series. I made myself do it. The ENTIRE plot relies on every character, doing the most stupid thing possible in the moment. The rest of the series is "boys be dumb and girls be cray cray. amiright?"

When I think about it, one of the most surprising things about living in the future is the surprising lack of general purpose black markets. There are black markets, places for illicit trade as always, but scifi made me feel like I'd have bought back alley tech with custom chips somewhere by now.
