New research estimates that 84% of proposed data centres are located in areas that are already water stressed or face imminent risks to water supply. Join us in calling on the Government for a moratorium on AI data centre construction. Add your name: globalactionplan.org.uk/stop-dirty-data-centres

Does Generative AI “Work”? That’s a Misleading Question. Generative AI works a lot like fossil fuels “work”—narrowly, intermittently, and with a lot of nasty side effects.

What happens when climate advocates offload the head and heart of our work onto morally offensive American tech corps?

TY to @newrepublic.com for letting me write about why "does it work" is the wrong debate around GenAI, as it is for fossil fuels. It hurts us and our cause, and that matters most

Google’s sneaky trick to sidestep an Iowa county’s data center zoning rules Just convince a nearby city to annex the land.

Big Tech doesn't like playing by the rules “We had a workable ordinance that puts in place really bare minimum requirements of information reporting... So for Google to really throw a fit over that, it’s a little bit disheartening.” #StopDirtyDataCentres

The pharma deal with the US is woefully short-sighted There must be more scrutiny of our pharma agreement with the US. Trump is strong-arming the UK into accepting massive price rises.

"Parliament must have the final say over whether we’ll accept Trump and big pharma’s bullying. If we give in this time around, they'll only be coming back for more."

Communities across the UK are taking action today and tomorrow to #StopDirtyDataCentres. They'll use energy, land + water that should be for people, not big tech.

In Brick Lane, London, they plan to build a new data centre instead of social housing 🤯

Moratorium now!

Data Centres Threaten UK Climate Targets

Big Tech’s plan to build more hyperscale data centres is putting the UK’s climate targets at risk.

Developers’ own figures indicate that emissions from just 10 planned UK data centres will release 2.7 million tonnes of CO² each year, wiping out annual CO² savings from the switch to EVs.

It is estimated that more than 100 data centres are planned across the UK, the largest of which would consume more electricity than double all the households in Wales.
