They definitely said that

Is he a candidate?

I wasn’t aware of when or how the team was doing when he took over. Can I ask why a team doing that well had a coaching change?

Assistant in Europe as well. He also did pretty well with NYRBII by the way.

I don’t like that Lane just quit on a playoff team. But if this was 3 years ago and he wasn’t playing in the SEC title game with a shot at the top four no one would have blinked an eye. You can be in the mix every year at LSU. He obviously thinks this is a one off and the ceiling at Ole Miss.

That’ll happen sometimes now just like it did in the old system. But now you have conference teams playing completely different conference schedules which will bring tie breakers into play a lot more than before.

You would always rather control your own destiny.

Miami is on the bubble. If they were playing in the ACC title game they would control there own destiny not need help.

Well you don't get the two best in the current system either. I'm not sure there is a system that is perfect but figuring out how to balance the schedules in these massive conferences would be better than what we have today.

With a 9 game conference schedule you can play everyone in your division even in 18 team leagues. Rotate teams from the other division or only see them in the tittle game but at least the teams that make it to the title game were decided it on the field.

I think Tech is better than Duke. Miami and Virginia are the 2 best teams in the ACC though but a committee doesn’t decide conference title games so I get why it is what it is. However I think we should get back to divisions so it’s decided by a more balanced schedule. Miami didn’t play any of them.

Well Virginia may be as good but Miami won 3 more games than Duke. I don’t think this is much of conversation. I think Duke could win next weekend and Miami would still be ahead of them in the CFP rankings.

It’s relevant when looking at resumes of the top teams in a conference. Those teams played a much tougher schedule than Ohio State. Obviously Ohio State is the best team but if we’re only looking at eye test why play the games? And if we’re only talking title contenders we should have stayed at 4.

This isn’t your father’s Tulane!

Great is a strong word but the middle of the SEC is superior to any other conference and you can’t disregard that when picking the 12 best teams or even comparing conferences.

Do you not think Miami is the better of the 3 schools?

Conference expansion and the removal of divisions certainly didn’t help.

4 months ago 1 0 0 0

Well I was speaking historically but that is certainly the best game this year. But I don’t see us debating if the 5th and 6th best teams from the BIG 10 should be in the playoff.

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

You’re not wrong but at that point why not just remove the automatic bids? Or are we still pretending to care about the group of 5 conferences?

I don’t know how to feel about the CFP making the best conference championship game this uninspiring.

4 months ago 2 0 1 0

Conferences need to go back to divisions to have a more balanced schedule determine these things. Not tie breakers.

So we’re going backwards to the days of splitting tittles? No thanks. How about the BIG 12, we’re just putting BYU and TT in the CFP?

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

The conferences were a lot smaller then. The schedules are wildly unbalanced with the super conferences today. How would you determine the BIG 10 champion without a tittle game? Although if we are going to keep them we should go back to divisions so it’s determined by games and not tie breakers.

It should be hard to get into the playoff. Don’t expand it, however the automatic bids are screwing with us getting the 12 best but at the same time the title games need to mean something. While half of UGA’s fan base wishes they’d have missed it because of the CFP.

I understand automatic bids but we’re certainly not getting the 12 best teams in CFP.

BYU or TT will have a 2nd loss come in a conference championship game. A lot of 2 loss teams out there as well. Just seems like it’ll be tough to justify but I don’t disagree that penalizing them for earning and playing the extra game is brutal.

We need to have divisions again. The schedules are so unbalanced and all the tie breakers are silly.

Either way the FSU loss could cost them the playoff. At 2 losses they get in.

If he makes it to ‘26 FSU needs to rethink the buyouts they can’t afford.
