Alamo built a cult following on the idea that going to the movies could feel special again. Now they're doing exactly what every other cost-cutter does. I'll be going to Nighthawk more often.
The experience is worse for it. Looking at your phone to flag a waiter or reorder a drink defeats the entire point of going to a place like Alamo. And when the app broke on me mid-movie, I was just stuck — no staff to flag down, no fallback.
Saw Mario Brothers at Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn with the kids this weekend. Movie is fine — kids loved it. But Alamo asking everyone to use phones to order is an attempt to cut labor costs while still charging premium prices.
A user found what they believed was recorded child abuse inside an Audible title. There was no way to report it. That should scare you.
