Like aside from your theology, purely as a descriptive matter.

“It is not enough that we wage war we must also spread plague.” is a fascinating continuation of the administration’s position to be as anti Christlike as possible

and it involves helium, somehow, whose production, apparently, heavily relies on petrochemical refining, for some reason

It’s a problem to be managed adaptively rather than solved technically, for the most part.

That’s unsatisfying, but it’s an ongoing process because the types of hazard a community faces always evolves, and so too the community with it.

And public safety ends up a reflection of that.

Yeah, it’s hard to make cars explode.

One of the more disappointing things about being a firefighter is that car fires always destroy everything in vehicle no matter what and are also not going blow up in a satisfying way.

Unless it’s an old VW. They had magnesium in their steering column.

I love that I know so little about the cutting edge of this tech because that means I periodically get to be reminded of stuff that is virtually indistinguishable from magic.

I think some people haven’t internalized the asymmetry with streamers. a person can say whatever shit about a streamer and you the grown ass adult defending a streamers honor will always be wrong

It totally is, I’ve done or sampled most every type of first responder role out there and it really sucks, mostly.

Like, cool as hell and the most amazing stuff you’ll ever do sometimes.

But mostly it sucks! Destroys your body and ruins your brain.

You too are a curmudgeon on this topic?

You know, my consistently held position is that bullying is bad full stop but the thing here is that something that might elsewhere take the form of bullying (lol you’re a coward) is, in this case, simply an evaluation of job-relevant qualities.

7 hours ago 7 1 1 0

That’s exactly right.

You can quibble about the communication style but fundamentally “you coward, get moving or get out of the way” is just a performance evaluation.

Incentives point in all the wrong directions on that too.

Veneration of law enforcement by the same folks incentivized to think that arming cops to the teeth and allowing them impunity for cowardice on one hand, and the other side by disposition opposed to aggressive law enforcement.

It’s one of the more faithfully real emergency medicine shows ever created in my unfortunately not limited experience in that world.

For better and worse tbh.

It’s a little less consistent, but you get some folks that basically take the Prophetic approach to dealing with the constant moral injury of being the last shred of the social safety net.

I have been that person.

“Scene safety” “officer safety” and the way that’s been characterized over the years has turned from “situational awareness” to “excuse to wait in your unit outside”.

This is my most curmudgeonly opinion.

It is simultaneously true that US public safety officials claim to need access to military hardware, ballistics vests etc. because they know that people in the public have them and then will also use the excuse that the populace is armed to avoid entering in high risk scenarios.

Oh, no that social issue lecturing is 100% what I meant.
