Boring answer: it simplified converting from user input to the tokenised representation of BASIC. I never had a 128k Spectrum where you had to type the whole word in the 128k version, so don't know if when you hit delete after a keyword did it delete the entire word or you had to delete each letter?
Not sure if it also does Z80, which seems quite critical for your current needs.
