Thank you! It was tedious but in a fun way, definitely going to have to do it again for a book cover down the road

3graphic novels by Matt Emmons resting on a quilt on a lap. Council of Frogs, the Winter King, and DAYSTAR
I received a shipment of absolutely gorgeous graphic novels today from the mind and pen of @secondatbest.bsky.social Trying my best to let them inspire me to get to work on my comic project and not despair that I will never be this good.
Anteater traveler on a leisurely stroll
The main fix for my burnout has been my patreon print subscription because I’ve carved out a way to be self indulgent creatively while learning, and still making a bit of money off of it. Which then helps grow convention/website sales too.
All this to say it’s always a lot of work, but it can work
On the burnout side, I think I’m always teetering on the edge of burnout, but the majority of my work being self published and personal makes it less severe than when I’m only doing freelance work. It’s become harder now having a baby in the mix, but it’s made me more economic with my time

To make travel sustainable I use credit card benefits (skymiles/hotel points) to travel comfortably for very little. I also have my own riso printer to have my own means of production. Plus building a body of my own work means I’m not reliant on freelance and can afford to say no to bad jobs
2/4
On the financial side, it’s doing several things at once - I self publish my own comics (Kickstarter/my own website/ads/0wholesale), travel to conventions (10-20 per year), mixed with occasional freelance and a small bit from my patreon (join my riso print tier!). I wear a lot of “hats”

I would like to thank @secondatbest.bsky.social for this great Mom text today that I will be saying at my cats for the rest if the week
I’ll be randomly giving the original border illustrations away to four patrons on the paid tiers of my patreon (though the print tier subscribers are much more likely to win)
