ITS TRUE... It feels more 'safe' in a way that only paranoid Disney executives could pull off, which is well known to dilute any sauce a movie could possibly have.

This is based off the trailer, so opinions are open to changing. But I'm concerned that the remake looks less interested in exploring the dichotomy between two troubled weirdos and more focused on the Freaky Alien Dog. Which to be fair, the marketing for the original was similar. We will see...

Having Lilo and Stitch be fundamentally equal is such a huge part of why their dynamic works. Lilo IS Nami's 'Stitch' - someone you love unconditionally, no matter how much stress they put you through, because they're family. I'm worried the remake might weaken this symbolism.

In the original, it's a huge plot point that Lilo's destructive behaviour is Nani's biggest stress and the reason why she might be taken into foster care... But in the trailer, all I saw Sad Girl Being Bullied :( It's as if they're worried we'll stop empathising if we see her misbehave.

One of the things that puts me off is the height difference - it alters the relationship between them completely. In the first, they're basically equals. They're both outcast and have issues that they work on together. But in the remake, it looks more like an owner and their weird, disobedient pet.

Lilo & Stitch is my favourite disney movie, so I have a lot of opinions about the new trailer.... I feel like yammering and I want to talk about how the live action interferes with one of the themes of the original - the dynamic between Lilo and Stitch.
