Kids' willpower is no match for fast food and screens. Try this instead For decades, parents were told to help children build willpower like a muscle, to resist things like junk food and too much time on their screens. But new research suggests a better strategy.

Boy, 11, Dies After Severe Case of the Flu: ‘Jace Never Even Got to Open His Christmas Gifts’ Jace Watkins, 11, of Alabama died on Dec. 27 after being hospitalized due to complications from the flu.

The death of any child is tragic. We always think it will not be my child, they are healthy. Severe influenza can be unpredictable & deadly. Getting vaccinated considerably reduces dz severity and deaths. Please make sure you are vaccinated & your children are too.

Yes. I’m worried about this too. And it takes away access to a vaccine that many would use to avoid an extra poke!

I’m a pediatrician who is very pro vaccine, but in general in our large suburban practice we use the MMR and Varivax at 1 and use MMRV at 4. There is a slight increase in febrile seizure seen with the combo product in 1 year old but not really in the older age group.

Wow-impressive work. I’m going to save this. Working hard this week to find ways to get Moderna in my pediatric practice for the small but passionate group of families who understand the benefits for my tiny patients.

We marched today in Oxford, MI. To remember Justin, Hana, Madisyn, and Tate. And to express urgency and outrage at the gun violence harming our children in so many ways. So impressed with the teens and young adults leading the charge! #wearorange #endgunviolencemichigan #nofuturewithouttoday

1914 is when the first pertussis vaccine was licensed in the US. This makes no sense to me that babies need die in this horrid way. In the 1990s babies lined my pediatric hospital wards, coughing and turning blue when they had pertussis-often lack of access was their reason for not being vaccinated

😢 awful! We licensed the first version of pertussis vaccine on 1914. Our grandparents and great grandparents had access to it!

Thank you for being such a great science communicator. As a pediatrician I think I do a pretty good job with the people already trusting me. However, to have these conversations in society where there is so much tribalism and mistrust is so very hard and you did so well! I will keep listening!
