Like even if this all ends without an escalation from the present level of bloodshed Trump and his administration should be held accountable for the threat alone. Making this threat, on its own, is a crime against humanity.

Assistant Foreign Minister Matt Thistlethwaite reiterated that Australia wanted a de-escalation in hostilities but declined to directly comment on the remarks.

"That's why Australia has been involved in diplomatic efforts with like-minded nations internationally to call on Iran to stop weaponising the Strait of Hormuz, to stop attacking their neighbouring countries and try and de-escalate this," he told ABC's Radio National Breakfast.

Asked if Trump's remarks were helpful, he said "all parties to this conflict need to ensure that they are abiding by international law".

Nationals leader Matt Canavan has urged Anthony Albanese to make it clear he doesn't support Donald Trump's latest Iran threat.

The US president has claimed on social media "a whole civilisation will die" if the US and Iran do not reach a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 10am AEST.

Speaking with ABC's Radio National Breakfast, Canavan says he doesn't support Trump's rhetoric.

"I think now's the time for Australia to, and the prime minister to, make it very clear that we can't support this type of approach to any kind of conflict," he said.

When Malcolm Turnbull (rightly) called Angus Taylor an idiot, why didn't one single journalist immediately follow up with "so why did you make him a minister more than once?"

The NSW cops are being so overtly aggressive it would almost seem like they were under orders to make sure the protest became violent.

A lot of useless idiots think opposing naked US imperialism in Venezuela means blindly supporting the Maduro government - I have no loyalty to the ruling class of any nation, only to the international working class. Sorry to disappoint x

Why is no one asking more follow up questions about the suggestion that the federal opposition leader has personally witnessed union members abusing elderly women, presumably in public, days before a federal election, but somehow there has been no member of the media to document the incident?

Several times now, I've heard Peter Dutton share stories of "ETU and CFMEU members abusing elderly women" at polling places. He claims that he's seen it first hand.

For the record, Joe Hockey is a defence lobbyist who stands to make millions from defence contracts with the US and other allies. To just describe him in interviews as a former US ambassador and not his CURRENT vested interest role is not just irresponsible, it's lying.
