Well, he's got the visor, the brow needs to be a little more furrowed though....and maybe slightly bigger ears...and maybe some coloured contact lenses! π
Okay so I looked that one up and he is an Antedean. Cool fun fact was that Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac did a cameo appearance on Star Trek as a dignitary from this race! Neat!
Definitely has the eyes down. Now if they have a related race that actually has ears...and maybe add a hat...LOL! Or a very prominent brow ridge. Bats are endless inspiration for unusual faces...π¦
We could have a whole thread on "bat species that could inspire new Star Trek characters"!!!π¦π
The eye colour is definitely unusual for a bat. And that visor! He is pretty amazing.

I'm not sure which character he is closest to but maybe he could be inspiration for a new one? @goodaaron.bsky.social
A hoary bat with a buff coloured face, cinnamon coloured fur with frosted tips - looking a lot like the moth pictured in this thread.
I challenge your Buff Tip Moth with a buff-tipped bat who would eat your Buff Tip Moth! (honestly hadn't thought of their faces mimicking the ends of sticks but maybe that's the trick).π¦
The Big Free-tailed Bat (Nyctinomops macrotis) is a large new world insectivore in the Molossid family. Fast fliers - their ears are aerodynamically angled forweard and attached over the brow in a fixed position. Their faces typically lack fur and their lips are always wrinkled like a bulldog. This one is looking at the camera with one very senescent brown eye like he knows what you've been up to. This is a portrait shot of the bat who has brown fur and brown ears. Image comes from a Brazilian bat conservation site https://www.sbeq.org.br/molo_unica/66ba6f3296adf4fb599b0b2b
π¦If you are going to go down the Star Trek path - we must also talk about the Ferengi-bats (Nyctinomops macrotis has amazing lobes) - a trait shared by many of the molossids...
Bats would call you back, but only the cats would hear them because their echolocation frequency is too high for human ears to register. #Baturday vs #Caturday
Text reads Super Immune, Fun Facts Bats ability to fly means that they tolerate elevated body temperature while in flight (fever level in humans) and a dampened inflammatory response. This gives them the ability to tolerate viruses that would make other species sick or even die. Happy Baturday. You are welcome! Always try to remember to include it. Not sure if I always give a good description! LOL! But the least I can do is include the text. (sometimes I get creative and add bonus material). LOL!

π¦This has to be one of our favourite bat posts of all time. Between Talia's "Bat Club" & self-motivated fundraising for bats to the artwork of the Grade 4s in Airdrie - it's just perfection. Raise hands for how many of you'all want to join "BAT CLUB"?!!! ββ€οΈπ¦

Today is #WorldArtDay. Bats have been represented in #art and culture for thousands of years, from cave paintings to sculptures
This beautiful piece is by the late Tom Mcowat who was a leading figure in bat conservation and an amazing artists. If you have a favourite piece of bat art, do share it!

Absolutely true. Personally, capturing my first Spotted Bat with Cori Lausen was an *emotional* experience. These are really unique and special little mammals. Life is richer with this kind of biodiversity in our lives. β€οΈπ¦π #BatAppreciationDay
Our favourite bat-team videographer, Jason Headley, helped us create this short video featuring the WCS Canada's Western Bat Team's Probiotic Project. We are going to be deploying more probiotic at key sites across Alberta starting in May. Results in BC show that it works. β¬οΈbat survival rates. π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
GOOD MORNING, MARYLAND! π
Thanks for the repost! #BatsNeedFriends
Creatives at the city of Calgary made a set of "weighted" bats with representative wingspans of our nine AB species. They were also giving away wildflower seeds to promote native plantings in city gardens! Remember to be careful with seed mixes to make sure you only have native plants & no invasives!
The University of Calgary helped the city out with a collection of pinned moths to help illustrate what bats eat. A beautiful set of moths - but they do need to add some beetles, flies and mosquitoes to the mix! Any night-flying insect is a potential snack for a bat!
The bat folks at the city created a fun little sorting game - who migrates and who hibernates? Can you guess?
Fun with a light box! The city set up images comparing a bat wing and a human hand. They are the same! Just longer fingers and maybe a few fused metacarpals - but a bat wing is essentially a mammalian hand. The order for bats is Chiroptera which literally means "hand wing".
Friday is #BatAppreciationDay! π¦
We teamed up with the City of Calgary & Calgary Wildlife Rehab Soc. at #YYC City Hall for bat outreach - connecting with staff who manage parks, buildings, and policy. Great questions, great conversations, & more collaboration ahead to help conserve Albertaβs bats!

We re-initiate efforts this May! With treatment and control sites across Alberta - we will be capturing bats, monitoring bat health & applying probiotic to roosting surfaces. Early results from BC has shown that it improves survival rates for bats. Lots of questions remain though! #ProbioticProject
