Dear @advocate.nyc.gov: How can you talk about diluting the number of voters when out of 5-million-plus registered voters, roughly 20% at best tend to elect our mayor every four years. Voters don’t show and don’t pay attention. It’s up to candidates to break through.

… uses California as an example. Gov Schwarzenegger would like a word with you. (For better or worse.)
Again, City Councilmember #FrankMorano just wants Republicans to have a guaranteed spot in a general rather than forcing them to win citywide with ideas. Party machines all the way.

Ok so the lesson is that we can’t pay attention to any elected city officials including City Councilmembers #JoannAriola
and #FrankMorano. They all are too concerned with allowing party machines to stay in power.
Morano’s argument against top 2 is simply false, especially as he …

I’m glad to hear the commissioners aren’t buying @bradlander.bsky.social’s argument. He’s making a specious argument and sounds like he’s defending the Machine and not choosing for good election practice in the current context.

Do you think that a general election in 2021 of Adams vs would have automatically led to an Adams administration. You are being incredibly myopic, short-sighted, and losing all context about politics in NYC, which is not exactly the same as the “American context.” @bradlander.bsky.social

the number of votes of what the democratic candidate requires. When the Democratic Party is such a huge majority such as in this city, having closed primaries like this is counterproductive, and frankly, it led to Adams as mayor.

And you ask what’s the point of having political parties? They can broadcast a message louder, but essentially you’re saying that the most money should have the most ballot access? Because otherwise, why should an NYC Republican candidate have the same general election access by getting 10% …

Defending it because it’s been how we do politics in this country is irrelevant. What if ranked choice voting led to a final two of Lander vs Mamdani and we could choose between you two and not give Curtis Sliwa such a chance. This is absurd. @bradlander.bsky.social

You are wrong Mr Comptroller. The parties in NYC that lead to non-Democratic candidates having a chance in the general … screw the parties in an environment where the 70ish% of registered voters belong to one party. Why not have the two top votegetters? Like they do in CA?

I just heard @bradlander.bsky.social testify to the nyc charter commission against open primaries, and as someone who ranked him first, ranked Mamdani, & did not rank Cuomo, I’ve never heard him give such an incorrect analysis. He completely misses the point & I’m quite disappointed.

Yes recency bias is real, but I’m not sure if I’ve ever been much sadder about a TV series ending than I am having just finished the astonishing #ANDOR.

We’re fighting antisemitism on college campuses. That’s why we pulled Holocaust history from the library of the Naval Academy but left two copies of Mein Kampf.

Anti-Trump Protests Get Underway Across the Country Demonstrators packed the streets in cities and towns to rail against government cutbacks, financial turmoil and what they viewed as attacks on democracy.

Of course White House doesn’t comment on massive protests. How can they when everything is going so well? Market crashes are great! Besides, the IiC was doing the 2025 version of playing violin: “Mr. Trump, who was playing golf in Florida on Saturday,…”

Stocks Pare Losses After Trump’s Moves and Comments Rattled Investors Investors were shaken by President Trump’s latest tariff threat, dragging the S&P 500 down further after its worst day of the year.

It shouldn’t be a struggle: This is what happens when somebody who doesn’t know anything thinks that he knows more than everybody, can’t be wrong, and never has faced consequences.

“Investors are struggling to understand the administration’s messaging on tariffs.”

I have been beta testing Highland Pro for several months and really love it!. The clean interface lets me focus on my writing. It’s “Fountain First” approach means I don’t waste time setting/fixing styles. And the Navigator enables me to organize my documents. Congrats Team Highland! #scriptsky

I can’t quite recall a bigger gulf between a penultimate ep standing as one of the most riveting hours of TV of the past year and the resulting finale being pure fill-in-exposition & future set-up mid than PARADISE eps 7 & 8. Compelling season with a near total miss on the landing for me. #Bummer

I feel really bad (mostly) for whoever got fired from their job at #Hulu tonight after not ensuring that the #Oscars live stream would not have a hard cutoff, instead allowing the stream of an event that notoriously runs long to cut out just before the Best Actress award! Still ABC says "Try Hulu"!

I’m sure DZ more than even Gunn & Safran is depending on SUPERMAN being the biggest entertainment event of the year.
