..."Carol Burnett" move—my way of telling my wife, and myself, that she's with me, and I'm with her.
“So if I can’t rule the world / Then just take my hand / And we will walk the earth again / All I see is you and me”

I fidget with my wedding ring a lot. I'm a bit of a restless person to begin with, but when it comes to the only piece of jewelry that I ever wear, I tend to feel more like I'm regularly pinching myself to make sure it's real. If I'm doing it in a photo or a video, it's my own...
"...the latest EP ‘Cage Of Water (Remixes)’ lands with purpose rather than polish-for-polish’s-sake. Tabbi’s touch is about tension management—knowing when to let the groove crowd the room, and when to carve space so the track can breathe.”

James Tabbi’s remixes are just as descibed in Canada's @uraniumwaves review - "electronic work that rewards attention." Very happy to find that this song can survive “at least four” different climates! “David Cloyd avoids treating momentum like a given, which is why..."
But along the way, I’ve learned something really important—that experience didn't create the cage, it exposed it. And while I haven't broken free yet, I can say that with this new year I've replaced resolutions with resolve, and that tunnel glass is finally starting to crack.
When I wrote "Cage Of Water," I was already past the difficult period of sleeplessness that inspired it. But I didn't fully understand that I was still having difficulty, even though the lyrics obviously did. Truthfully, it was the beginning of a long road, one that I'm still traveling on...
“David Cloyd’s return to the wider indie music conversation has unfolded with unusual clarity and momentum. Tabbi’s involvement feels particularly apt. The remix does not overwrite the original; rather, it amplifies its sense of confinement and longing, translating metaphor into motion.”
@jamestabbi.bsky.social really brought new energy to “Cage Of Water” in his remixes. It’s one of the most important songs I wrote for Red Sky Warning, and his work really makes it sing anew. Grateful to Magnetic Magazine for this review:
When I eventually recorded it, I made sure that the opening acoustic guitar had that same ambience to it - minus the blood, of course. I love how artistic inspiration can come positively come out of any experience….
This certainly wasn’t a good idea from a medical standpoint, but I was so entranced by how ethereal it sounded that I completely ignored the fact that it kept causing my wounds to start bleeding again. Pretty sure that’s where the “drop of red” line in my song “Cage Of Water” came from.
After one of my family's Thanksgiving feasts some years ago, I broke a glass while washing dishes and cut my right hand up. I wasn’t much help with my knuckles and thumb wrapped up in gauze, so I grabbed my guitar and started mindlessly strumming the strings with my bandaged thumb.
“In a time when remix culture often trades meaning for momentum, ‘Cage Of Water [Remixes]’ stands as a rare example of reinvention done with care ... immersive, patient, and quietly unforgettable; further proof that sometimes the most powerful journeys happen without ever leaving the room.”
I’m especially glad that Ireland’s No Transmission shows extra love for the deep cuts! The “Symnambient" and "Lonely Island" remixes are stunning work from James Tabbi!
Thanks to Deon for his in-depth review, and continued congrats to James Tabbi for joining me in the cage!

Read the review of “Cage Of Water [Remixes]” from Distortion Diaries: “This EP doesn’t just revisit a song—it reframes it, proving that sometimes the most powerful way forward is to stay with one idea long enough to truly understand it.”
Congrats to @jamestabbi.bsky.social for his artistry, and big thanks to NuvaPulse for your thoughtful insight!

Read the review of “Cage Of Water [Remixes]” from UK’s NuvaPulse: "Some remix projects feel like afterthoughts. David Cloyd’s 'Cage Of Water [Remixes]' does not. Instead, it comes across as a careful and genuinely inspired extension of a song that already carried emotional weight.”
...It was exactly how I felt during that sleep-deprived time in my life—disconnected from the world around me, and separated from myself.
...I remember visiting the National Aquarium in Baltimore around that time, staring at these giant sharks through the thick glass as they moved unnaturally through this obviously unnatural habitat...
... I feel these remixes will draw the listener deep into the urgent waters this newfound collaboration navigates. Thanks for the work, James.
The song comes from my first two years of parenthood, which brought a lot of love and joy into my days, but also took a lot of sleep away from my nights...

“We cannot wait until the spring to throw sails open wide
We must take to the sea at once or lose our lives in the wake”
With that, I wish you all a spectacular new year, and hope we all find the courage to seize the moment.
In my song “Ocean Of Hours,” I ask “Where did the time go?” As relevant as that question might be, I’m not going to spend any more time lingering on it. Life is happening now, so I’m taking my own advice—same song, different lyric:
So thanks to all who’ve been listening–your enthusiastic response has moved me beyond words. And thanks to the family at ECR Music Group for your staunch support and your continued belief in my artistry.
What a beautiful ride 2025 has been. It’s hard to express how gratifying it’s been to release my new album Red Sky Warning this year. I poured my heart and soul into this project for a long time, and the fact that these songs are finally out there means the world to me.
We were kindred spirits from the get-go, kamikaze-shooting spontaneous scenes with reckless abandon as we ran all over New York City like a couple of miscreants.
That feeling reminded me of Hitchcock’s North By Northwest. From one escape to the next, there’s never time for Cary Grant or the audience to recover. This was my first time working with director Alice Teeple, and she quickly embraced and captured that feeling.
