No one asked you to be happy. Get to work.

I'd rather it didn't. It's perfect as it was
An FB memory:
I went to a thing at the Museum of Natural History, on neuroscience. I found out that mouse and rat brains are flat not folded (!). I also played a sort of Jeopardy game -- and I discovered that MY brain has slowed down to a terrible crawl. This has been both interesting and awful.

I loved this book so much!

Weaving Magic into the Modern World
When I finally settle down to do a task I'd been putting off, I find I become obsessed with another task I had also put off--maybe for longer or for shorter. So I put down the one and take up the other, then find myself despairing of ever finishing anything again.
Time to show your snow photos!

I once had an editor try to remove every semicolon in my novel. Obviously she hated my style, but in the years since then I've come across more people who don't approve of semicolons.
What do you think? Do you hate them or love them? Why?
They are dear to me, so I'll stand up for them forever.
Road block! Thankful they made it past Thanksgiving!

Arc Manor has reissued my first collection--reviewed by the NY Times in 1995, when they had a page devoted to University presses:
“Haunting and quirky, these modern-day fables are told with such arresting attention to the details of daily life that the line between reason and reverie is dissolved"
there's a magic eye looking back at you
It pleases me (for some reason) to know that Walt Whitman used to ghost-write rave reviews for his "Leaves of Grass"

Nick, she promised you ATTRACTIVE READERS.
Was that me, Nick? Did they finally find me?
