You're right that US bases have been hammered. Iran's drone/missile capability demands a rethink of US forward locations (Kuwait especially?).
Plus the US's inability to defend it's bases and it's allies from Iranian tactics. Hi-tech (expensive) v low-tech. Not good for the US global reputation.
