if the battery is dead, the save data disappears from SRAM as soon as you turn the console off. and since you need to get to the everdrive startup for it to be written to the SD card (i.e. turn off -> on), the save data will always be lost if the battery is dead. it's a very unfortunate design quirk

i've run into this as well, the battery must be alive for the saves to actually be written to the SD card. the way it works is that it keeps the save data in SRAM on the everdrive itself and then writes it to the SD card when the everdrive starts up.

i was surprised to see that it only has about 80% positive reviews on steam at the moment, but from skimming the reviews i would conclude the following: this user-defined tag should probably be much higher!!! the platforming in particular is very challenging at times, but it's not unreasonable.

decided to be ahead of the curve on Playing The New Metroidvania for once, so i played through MIO: Memories in Orbit. it was very good! i especially like how the aerial movement works. i would recommend it.
