Many tributes today for legendary ABC broadcaster James Valentine.
That he was able to avail himself of the Voluntary Assisted Dying laws enacted in NSW in 2023, is testament to the passion and advocacy of Andrew Denton, among SO many others.
A dignified leaving. For that, many thanks are due.

Was there a better broadcaster than James Valentine? What warmth, what joy, what creativity! What a privilege to know him. I love you, James.
Love to Joanne, Ruby and Roy. What a legacy.
I've donated. You should consider it too. We need climate leaders, now and in the future.
Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?
Know who LOVES recycling?
The plastic (oil) industry.
You know who INVENTED the carbon footprint calculator?
The oil industry.
They love them because they both shift the blame from them, to you.
Don’t fall for it.
How about we shift some linehaul road freight from road to rail? Even today's diesel hauled trains use just one third of the fuel per tonne-km of road. Just 1-2% of freight between adjacent interstate capitals currently goes by rail, and there's plenty of capacity.

Instead of piling all the onus onto us individuals, how about some of the larger transport freight shippers, retailers, warehousers, manufacturers and distributors start reducing your interstate road linehaul?
Coles, Woolworths, Amazon and all the rest - here's a chance to do your bit for all of us.
I went through the same thought process.

Was rather hoping that headline might read;
“Ceasefire brings hope of peace & justice across Middle East”
But no, our hopes just confined to petrol prices…
A Federal court decision that copyright resides with where something was created, not the person who created it, contradicts all accepted & precedent law. If it stands, it will alter the work & livelihoods of every journalist, writer & artist in this country.

That’s a good point.
Brilliant, heart-rending analysis from @kossamaras.bsky.social but made me wonder why the Greens don't seem to be seizing the moment. (Or am I wrong?) #AusPol
The problem is not my excellent N95 mask but the person with COVID not wearing a mask. If you’re seated next to a sick person who is unmasked for 12-14 hours it is almost impossible to avoid it.🫤
Me too! Like the art.
I agree, despite what the airlines say.
Yes, I’ve been getting that one the last couple of years. I seem to get COVID but I haven’t had the flu for years, since getting shots.
A reminder, Aussies, it’s not only flu shot time (they’re expecting a doozy this year) but it might be time to get another COVID booster. I get them every six or eight months because I fly a lot and if they wane I’m bound to catch it on a flight. Three times now, all on planes - and I mask. #AusPol
She spoke out about Gaza. Now she can't use a credit card.
The UN investigator for Palestinian territories is facing U.S. sanctions and accused of antisemitism by the State Department.
No we don't. AI uses us - and steals it all.
Best of intentions. All power to people trying to fix a continuing disaster. But I can't help but think unless we seriously address climate change such projects are likely futile. And the scale of the challenge regarding restoring the GBR is massive.

"Hey Stephen Miller, fucking retire, man!"
Our DC Bureau Chief David Corn caught up with a retired army veteran at the No Kings march in Washington. He had a strong message for those in uniform now.

Rosie is ready….she will be with you all the way on Cape Cod!
Hopefully very early stages.
Good luck.
It is being reported on the ground in Cuba that everyone on a ventilator at this hospital died overnight.
As a Cuban, I'm devastated.
“The US-Israel war on Iran is a disaster for the climate, according to an analysis that finds it is draining the global carbon budget faster than 84 countries combined.”

If you're thinking about what to do with your summer, my friend Peter Stridh (@pinoseed-connect.bsky.social) is offering berths aboard his engineless 10-metre sailboat/home on a series of daytrips and longer passages off the coast of Sardinia, between April and October.
