Imagine writing a bestselling book encouraging a 'people's revolt' only to see it happen in parallel in Hungary. He must be feeling thoroughly buoyed up.

Kevin goes into quite a bit of detail. Possibly too much?

With this settlement the US is worse off in every way than it was before the war; Iran is strengthened by the huge new tolls in the Straits of Hormuz, paid by the whole world. (1/14)

Such is the nature of projectised work... more and more of that happening these days especially in cultural and creative industries.

But they do include 'staff parties' as a perk so... you know... swings and roundabouts.

Perpetuating the state pension myths and the ambiguous "paying in to a system" trope. The people to whom pensions are being paid entirely rely on the younger in-work generation to fund them. It is quite the flex to say that the younger generation is somehow deficient here.

"Sapiens": One page at a time I've been co-teaching a course for several years in which we read Sapiens . I think I've read it eight times, now. That explains the gumband...

I love this! The brilliant Holly Dunsworth is reviewing Sapiens, one page at a time, separating myth from fact… Let’s dive in!

I think a badger is the very least you can expect.

@folkhorrormagpie.bsky.social hurrah for your intro to Bog People. A perfect, succinct, and significantly more stylish counter to the horrors of Matthew Goodwin's view of class, inequality, and national decline: Suicide of a Nation.

As a teen I had massive capacity for listening to "difficult" music. I found ways into it pretty easily, my listening was eclectic and I was hungry for the experience and the noise. I really genuinely enjoyed Trout Mask Replica. Don't listen to it so much now, but I still know it inside and out.

Goodness how surprising.

Also James, I haven't quite recovered from you telling us today about how your overnight oats nearly exploded. I nearly crashed wondering what confessional hell we were about to be subjected to.

Best of luck. I managed to zone out completely when I had an MRI. The rhythmic clunking and whirring was strangely hypnotic and not dislike the experience of Sabresonic club in the 1990s under the arches near London Bridge which I willingly subjected myself to. So I put myself there.

The great thing about this is the Reform UK core vote jumping up and down and calling the polling a fix. This is the optimum level of self-delusion that comes before, during, and after a fall (see Matt Goodwin).

A few photos from my recent wanderings. I am walking a virtual Lands End to John O'Groats this year which means averaging out 16.8 miles per week. Quite a long a way it turns out (although this hasn't been a massive revelation) but I am now halfway between Exeter and Bristol.

The mistake was putting Churchill on the banknote in the first place. It should have been highly predictable that some people would lose their minds over it being changed. Be great if the UK could get over it's WW2 fetish soon.

Baffling Badenoch... a fun activity for all the family.

What is remarkable about her leadership is the clear and obvious direction she could have decisively taken to rehabilitate the Conservative Party and her unerring ability to avoid it.
