If you don't know what to listen to and you're bored of your usual picks, ask a friend! Read a music blog! Listen to an independent radio station! Don't hand over your experience of a human art form to a fucking algorithm, be a human being and interact with someone. It has real meaning!
Playlist curation is an art. Sequencing songs is an art. Making a playlist for someone is an act of love and care, and it takes real thoughtfulness. We're losing it to a corporation that thinks it can aggregate a million people's tastes into "vibes" it can use to keep you on the platform longer.
Spotify seeks to turn music into mere content, not art. It's not just algorithmically generated playlists, but them deciding to inject things it *thinks* I'll like into a playlist I've already done the work of making myself. It's them prioritizing songs in shuffle based on what it thinks I'm feeling
There's also PRIDE in taking the time and effort to build a collection yourself that you just can't get by letting an algorithm do all the work. It's good to think critically about what you like and what you actually want to have, it's good to actually make a decision about your media consumption!
The active nature of collecting is a big draw for people. Even if it's just files on an iPod, there's pride in building a collection yourself. *You* did that, not some algo!
Spotify is incredibly passive, and it's easy to not put any thought into your music at all. It makes music content, not art.
Also, I think it's a good thing to critically think about what you like, and put effort into building a collection. I don't want to have an algorithm decide what my taste is, I want to make the conscious effort to explore and expand what I have. Ask a friend for recs, read a blog, be ACTIVE about it
This is exactly it. I almost never play my physical media "traditionally", it's all ripped and uploaded to a server I run. It's not about nostalgia. Streaming is objectively convenient, but I don't want to be beholden to constantly changing terms and conditions, to "improvements" I can't opt out of.
Currently running Plasma for games/media consumption/tablet mode behavior and Sway for productivity. I'll have to check out niri, though, the layout looks ideal for me.
I've got an 2-in-1 with Arch and the touchscreen mode in Plasma is actually pretty great out of the box. I imagine the proprietary nature of the surface makes things a little funky at first, but I actually really like the form factor. I'm eyeing the Framework as my next upgrade.

Nvm, saw your other reply. Humbuckers in a semi are such a Beatles-y sound, you’ve got sustain for days without needing to crank up the gain
I’m such a sucker for semi-hollows, and that blonde finish is gorgeous. Do you know what kind of pickups are in this?
As a Cubs fan, this is Boyd. He’s great for one or two innings but he falls fast and hard

people think saving elixirs and never using them even after the boss fight is a funny video game thing but you realize that's just who you are as a person when you clean out your fridge and find a jar of sauce from 5 years ago
If I’m feeling real lazy I’ll just add one of those marinaded tuna packets and furikake and call it a day

Blueskyese and Xian share an obvious common root as both being Twitteric languages, the difference is that after the split Xian became a hybrid Twitteric/Channer-linkedin tongue, while Blueskyese changed less overall but did pick up some tumbleric and redditor loanwords
