Murray on women’s tennis: “There’s a lot of be excited about” Judy Murray, former British Fed Cup captain who now works in the WTA community tennis space, believes women’s tennis is re-entering a period of global recognition and popularity.

“There are players coming through now who look like they will go on to dominate for a number of years and win an awful lot of major tournaments. You need players at the top of the game who are winning consistently because then they become recognisable."

In Sabalenka v Anisimova, the US Open 2025 women's final features another first-time Slam final meeting.

This has happened in 27 of the past 28 major finals dating back to the Serena v Osaka 2018 US final.

The only Slam final rematch in that span was Sabalenka-Gauff at RG 2025.

AO Flashback: Seles vanquishes Venus in last great run Monica Seles scored her first and only victory in 10 meetings against Venus Williams in the Australian Open 2002 quarterfinals – her final significant win at Melbourne Park.

By reaching the AO 2002 QF, Venus had built a 24-match win streak, winning 48 of her past 50 sets.

Seles entered the match-up 0-6 vs Williams, and 0-5 in her past five major QFs.

Yet she turned back the clock, a performance we revisit on ausopen.com.
