“There are players coming through now who look like they will go on to dominate for a number of years and win an awful lot of major tournaments. You need players at the top of the game who are winning consistently because then they become recognisable."

In Sabalenka v Anisimova, the US Open 2025 women's final features another first-time Slam final meeting.
This has happened in 27 of the past 28 major finals dating back to the Serena v Osaka 2018 US final.
The only Slam final rematch in that span was Sabalenka-Gauff at RG 2025.
Enjoyed working on this one — Sinner and Alcaraz could become the first duo in the Open Era to meet in more than two Grand Slam men’s singles finals in the same season.

With the US Open approaching, active players who could build on their tally of multiple major final meetings...
3 - Djokovic v Medvedev
2 - Wawrinka v Djokovic
2 - Djokovic v Tsitsipas
2 - Alcaraz v Djokovic
2 - Alcaraz v Sinner
2 - Gauff v Sabalenka
Most major final meetings between same two players in Open era:
14 - Navratilova v Evert
9 - Nadal v Federer
9 - Nadal v Djokovic
9 - Serena v Venus
7 - Djokovic v Murray
7 - Graf v Sanchez Vicario
6 - Graf v Navratilova
6 - Graf v Seles
By reaching the AO 2002 QF, Venus had built a 24-match win streak, winning 48 of her past 50 sets.
Seles entered the match-up 0-6 vs Williams, and 0-5 in her past five major QFs.
Yet she turned back the clock, a performance we revisit on ausopen.com.
