It doesn’t sound like he was much of a father in life so your actual response is proportional. Dreams have a way of trying to make things perfect so it’s no surprise you have a different reaction to “what could have been”

That might not be the vintage one tho. But those loads of the old ones of various characters in eBay
Just seen on eBay
Oh wow. The robots are very nice. Really don’t remember them tho
Oh I don’t remember the toys but I’ve always loved the movie. A 4k release would be nice but I’d settle for a decent blu ray
Who’s going to #Capitol at Gatwick next month?
And of course, THAT ending with its fusing of man and machine and a literal (?) descent into hell followed by heavenly intervention possibly. It’s got ambitions way beyond what you’d expect from a 70s family film. #TheyDontMakeEmLikeThatAnymore
It’s such a mishmash of ideas though. From Star Wars they take the cute robots (but it’s Disney so they have expressive eyes etc) but it’s shot through with a darkness, like the fate of the original crew
I guess a lot of films make a big impression on you when you’re 9 and seeing it on the kind of big cinema screens that were so common then. And this was no exception.
Oh it’s weird. It’s just really peculiar this one. Robert Hardy as mad as a mongoose.

we all know I have no life, so:
It also seems odd to not even try to make the photographs look like the original actors from Family.
However, the other deaths we have here, Picard’s brother and nephew, that still rankles. It only seems to exist to give him some motivation to maybe be tempted by the Nexus and that lasts a minute or two until Guinan shows up and explains.
Easy to like, hard to love. That about sums up this film. It only really comes alive when Shatner is on screen. Kirk and Picard together are a pretty good team and Kirk’s death has never bothered me.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a mess, despite a cast of dependable supporting players.

So I might as well rank these first six
1. The Wrath of Khan
2. The Motion Picture
3. The Voyage Home
4. The Final Frontier
5. The Undiscovered Country
6. The Search For Spock
Again, I don’t hate any of them. It’s all relative.
At the time I remember hating that Spock basically tortures Valeris to get the information but now it seems to foreshadow the moral ambiguity that will plague Benjamin Sisko a few years hence.
Christopher Plummer is great. David Warner has a better part than the previous film but very brief. Thankfully his TNG is just around the corner. It’s nice to see Michael Dorn here.
I just gave this four stars on Letterboxd. And yet I’ve never really cared for it that much. It’s a good film and certainly at the time seemed much better than Star Trek V. But it’s probably 5th in my ranking of the TOS

This is my poster for Doctor Who: The Gunfighters. It features the First Doctor holding a gun, coloured in blue and red, with little figures behind him, coloured in blue. The background is a light yellow. On the top left, it says "All he wanted was a dentist. He got a shootout instead." On First Doctor's body, it says "William Hartnell, in a episode directed by Rex Tucker", "The Gunfighters - a Doctor Who original", 16mm - Black & White" and "With Peter Purves & Jackie Lane". On the bottom, it says all the other cast members in the episode. My watermark is on the bottom left corner.
NEW ARTWORK!
It's been 60 years since Dr. Who visited Tombstone for a dental emergency and what he got instead was a gunfight. Yeee-haw!! 🤠🐎
My group of artist friends wanted to make posters for The Gunfighters for its anniversary, so I had to join and make one! #DoctorWho #WilliamHartnell
