Maidan is not just history.
It’s people. It’s stories. The living, the wounded, the fallen.
The fight is not over.
🔵 Maidan was just the beginning. The fight goes on now.
Sofia’s father saved lives on Maidan. Then on the frontline. And today, medics like him and our warriors still need our help.
“He served as a combat medic from 2014 to 2024.
Forced to leave due to health reasons.
But he never stopped—now he volunteers on the frontline, still saving lives.”
After Maidan.
“He can’t watch the news without pain.
“I saw them being killed in front of me,” he says.
But he has no regrets. “I had to be there.”
February 20. Instytutska St.
“My father pulled people out from under the bullets.
Years later, he showed me photos: “I didn’t make it in time.”
We watched his footage from a makeshift hospital.
I can’t imagine what he went through.”
“I stumbled upon a photo online:
Faces covered in blood. Hands black from gunpowder. Medics in white shirts falling under bullets alongside those they were trying to save.”
February. “Black Thursday.”
“His phone was off.
He called only once: “I’m alive.”
Maidan was still standing. But snipers were at work.”
January 2014. Hrushevskyi Ave.
“They’re shooting near the stadium,” he said over the phone.
His voice was calm, but I knew it was hell—black smoke, stun grenades exploding, the first bullets fired.
He was in a makeshift medical unit, saving lives.”
“He left again as a doctor, taking a backpack full of medical supplies.
He never said how long he’d be gone.
He never explained why he was going.
But I knew—he wouldn’t come home until it was over.”
November 2013.
“I came home from school—the only one who didn’t go to the protests (and got bullied for it) because my father told me not to skip classes.
He had been in Kyiv for a week. He wasn’t answering his phone.
This wasn’t his first protest.”
Our volunteer, Sofia, shared her story. Her father, a doctor, went to Maidan with a backpack full of medical supplies and never looked back.
