Hey Dani, You sure you want those coal mines? You know the ones that will destroy our waterways for an Australian millionaire who doesn't care about us?

More likely to hear gas companies/billionaires on why taxing gas is not a good idea, rather than what Australia is missing out on. We let those speaking on behalf of power skirt by with homilies and half-truths.
We should all care about that, a lot. www.deepcutnews.com/p/legacy-med...
The key q'n is will Farrer vote for a far-RW extremist party One Nation, using Trump tactics to lie, divert on economic issues, it representing mining/ petro-state billionaire interests, with overriding goal to turn Australia into a U.S maga lawless white nationalist violent culture #auspol #nswpol
I lived in Lyndhurst while a coal plant produced electricity in La Trobe (Victoria, Australia).
When I left the windows open on the La Trobe side of the house, everything was covered in coal dust. This was 2009-2015 for context.
Coal is dirty.
Solar is much cleaner and cheaper in the long run.
Editorial: The way the IMF’s message was picked up in Australian media, you’d think this wasn’t one of the only developed countries to avoid both global recessions this century. As if government support in the tens of billions, with programs like JobKeeper, hadn’t played a part… satpa.pe/adVbCXd
Australia cannot trust palantir
So apparently bombing schools, hospitals, murdering journalists is fine, but attack a statue of Jesus and suddenly Australian media criticises?
Student allegedly jailed in China for six years after taking part in pro-democracy protests in Australia
Exclusive: The Australian government has been urged to take stronger action to protect overseas students from political repression

West Papua, is owned and run like a 19th-century colony. But its situation is even worse, as it is not formally recognised as such. Instead, it's treated by the UN and powerful countries – incl the US, Australia #AusPol & the UK – as part of the national territory of Indonesia
How can Australia trust a fascist Trump/GOP regime that makes war crime overnight genocide threats against a nation and its military that has carried out war crimes and the notion of war crimes no longer exists as far as the Trump admin is concerned in its military ethics/law value system ? #auspol
Truth in media laws required for politicians

Isn't this one of the problems with humanity?
In Australia, it's hard to even bring up West Papua as a topic of discussion. Maybe because it's too close, and Australia been implicit in ignoring it for so long, the guilt is so strong.

The High Court of Australia has given us an implied right of political communication yet NSW's Premier Minns & Qld's Premier Crisafulli thought they could just wipe that out with their draconian legislation. But 4 our Higher Courts who eg have smacked down Minns' legislation we would have no rights.
Australia and Norway both have highly profitable resource industries.
Norway taxes oil and gas at 78% and has used that revenue to build the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund.
The comparison highlights the massive opportunity Australia has missed.

Residents of the Central Australian community of Papunya say the scorching hot outback summers are killing their people in unsafe housing. Now they’re suing the Northern Territory government to try to force change.
It's very fathomable.
Just Anus Goose Taylor trying to out-bigot Poorleen.
“Angus Taylor said the 1300 Gazans who have come to Australia since October 2023 should be vetted again. He gave no evidence for his claim that they represent a clear risk to our country. This is unfathomable bigotry.” | Paul Bongiorno satpa.pe/C9u0wsb
Of course Channel 7 Spotlight essentially knowingly lied in it's hugely deliberately misleading report on EVs.

A prime-time TV report on renewables and EVs fell apart at the first fact-check.
Misinformation is distorting Australia’s energy debate – and being amplified in mainstream media, Giles Parkinson writes.

“Every year, Australia hands $20 billion in tax breaks to property investors – more than it spends on social housing, homelessness and rent assistance combined.
These tax breaks have helped fuel wave of property speculation that has pushed home ownership out of reach for my whole generation. ➡️

Taxing our gas.Today’s Age cartoon.
Single frame. Title “Against the Law…” NSW Premier Chris Minns marching in front of the bench in court holding sign saying “SOCIAL COHESION RULES OK” and chanting “WHADDOIWANT? TO OUTLAW PROTEST! WHENNOIWANNIT? NOW!” Court scribe watches on and judge says, “Move on.”
Protest.
My @smh cartoon.
When you learned about the Iran hostage crisis, did they teach you this part?
In November 1979, during the crisis, Black hostages and women were released first.
Ruhollah Khomeini said they were oppressed in the United States and not part of the power structure, so they weren’t seen as spies.
Hilariously, there are some on the New Left who think it's regressive and anti-democratic to villainize oil and gas companies and the elected officials they collude with. No, really.
Once again "the death of the West" meant "the death of my secret bank account."
Dismantling Voice of America was one of the most devastating things I’ve witnessed. VOA wasn’t propaganda, it was proof that free press could criticize its own leaders and still survive. And now we’re throwing away one of our greatest tools of freedom.
