One of the audience is Slavic in the talks and some of the Slavic words sound so similar to Sanskrit. I am not familiar with their grammar though. Learning Latin helps too, Ajahn Brahm used to learn Latin in high school and that's the reason why he picked up Pali quickly.
James Whelan's talks on Sanskrit and Pali are quite interesting and engaging. He dived into the etymologies of Indo-European languages. Previously, I assumed as a Malay speaker, I have the advantage due to the Sanskritization of SEA languages. But Europeans have the upper hand.

In SA 267, Carana is a type of bird with mixed coloured plummage [汝見嗟蘭那鳥種種雜色不]. But, Pali commentary treats Carana as a painting.
In SA 267, the Buddha mentioned the variety of shapes of a bird [我不見一色種種如斑色鳥]. Whereas, in the Pali text, it is about the diversity of animals.
