Blockading the strait and completely stopping oil from getting to India, Pakistan, Thailand etc is a worse idea than what we're doing now. Unless the US goes into this whole hog with hundreds of thousands of troops to actually do regime change then yes, blockade them.

Blocking Iranian ships doesn't open the strait though, even if it's much smarter than trying to take Kharg. But either approach means less oil and refined products make it out, which just worsens the economic effects of the war, and I doubt either really compels Iran to stop the war on US terms

It's intolerable to the US, the Gulf states, the world at large, but stopping it seems to require a large number of troops and nobody seems interested in that. And the gulf states can afford to pay.

I agree it's certainly possible. But getting all or even most of the gulf states on board and coordinated could be a challenge, when you could just pay off Iran for now. Cheaper and less bloodshed.

I don't think the gulf states can keep hormuz open without the US. It's not a matter of money, it's a matter of military size and capability.
