We ended up with beautiful narrative triangle when a PC said "I'm experiencing transformation", and the other two PCs took sides along embracing the change or rejecting it. So different than what we planned, and so much better.

I adore intraparty narrative conflict. Imagine if Frodo never left Sam? That conflict drove their character development and made the ultimate triumph so much sweeter.
