Absolutely eye opening book btw!!
And even a bit disturbing
Im glad to see @garethgore.bsky.social is still steadily pursuing the truth

"...from the 1950s onwards, Banco Popular’s wealth went into creating a vast recruitment network targeting children and vulnerable teenagers, building palatial Opus Dei centres across the world, and eventually forming one of the most formidable clandestine political influences in the US."

@garethgore.bsky.social: "We have to let the light in. The truth has to emerge.”
Our friend, Gareth, met with the Pope last week to discuss his groundbreaking reporting on the secretive organization, Opus Dei. Check out our newsletter on the meeting: courtaccountability.substack.com/p/pope-leo-i...
Leonard Leo, who ProPublica called “an architect of the right-wing takeover of the courts,” is deeply embedded within Opus Dei. Leo helps fund the Opus Dei-affiliated Catholic Information Center in Washington, DC.

I spoke with the great @garethgore.bsky.social about his meeting last week with Pope Leo, on Opus Dei’s horrific abuses.

Watch this - and read the book. 1/3 of 300 page book details Opus Dei-Leonard Leo web in DC.
Pope Leo noticed, even as DC investigative reporters continue to ignore the biggest political story in decades.

This is a BFD.
Pope Leo asked me to meet him in a private audience at the Vatican today
I presented him with documents and evidence detailing decades of abuse inside Opus Dei and urged him to launch a full independent investigation into the group
A THREAD 🧵
It's hard to top my meeting with Pope Leo, but there was another very exciting development for OPUS this week
Gaumont, the team behind hit shows like Narcos and Lupin, will be adapting my book for the screen!

I picked up Gareth's book last year and it manages that rare balancing act of taking an interesting subject and telling it in a way that foregrounds the story without being consumed by it. Genuinely great to see it get recognised and hopefully acted upon.
Journalist and author Gareth Gore shares what he said during his audience with Pope Leo XIV March 16: "By putting on record what information I shared with the pope in the meeting, nobody can now turn around and say: Well, we didn't know."
Pope Leo met on Monday with an investigative journalist who alleges that a prominent Catholic organisation with ties to right-wing politicians in the U.S. and other countries covered up sexual and financial crimes, which the group firmly denies. For @reuters.com
Gareth is also associate editor of International Financing Review, so long term fans were pleased by the "Tres principales transactiones crediti Europaei, sive longae sive breves" part of the audience
😂
He invited me after learning of the allegations made in my book OPUS, which he described as “a rigorous piece of work”
We spent more than forty minutes talking – just the two of us – and he asked a series of informed questions
Holy moly!!
So kind! Thank you, Rob.
Gareth is one the best financial journalists in the business, but even by that standard, being invited to see the Pope after writing an excoriating investigation of a group that is recognise by the Catholic church is quite something
This is amazing news. I highly recommend Gore's book, which besides being a fascinating history of Opus Dei finances and abuses, contains very interesting details of Opus Dei ties to the Trump Administration.
Absolutely incredible development - thousands of far right Catholic Opus Dei criminals around the world must feel sick right now
The Pope from Chicago did a photo op, wrote a personal invitation, and conducted a 1-on-1, 45-minute evidence exchange and advocacy meeting with Gareth Gore!!
Epic 🧵:
Pontifex maximus meets with Opus Dei expert Gareth Gore in the Vatican to discuss measures against the cult. An essential read (the whole thread)
Very important and fascinating thread from Gareth Gore and his meeting with Pope Leo today.
By inviting me here, Pope Leo has sent a very strong message to the victims that he is listening, that the Church wants to hear their voices
But what really matters is action. How he responds to these abuses will a big part of the legacy he leaves behind
For too long, Opus Dei has been able to operate with relative impunity wherever it wanted to. Those days are now over.
It’s time to let the light in. It’s time for the world to learn the truth about this abusive organisation and the lives that it has destroyed.

But Opus Dei’s dirty tricks campaign has completely failed
Pope Leo’s decision to invite me to the Vatican to hear the findings of my years-long investigation into Opus Dei is proof that the Church is taking these allegations very seriously – right at the very top
