Really lucky I got to attend the @bsdb.bsky.social spring meeting - Molecules to Morphogenesis. (Despite getting a cold on day 1 🙈) I got to hear incredible science, meet great people, and came away with a head full of ideas I can’t wait to test in the lab! #BSDB 🧪

Delighted to introduce KELPE: mESCs with two insulated genomic landing pads, which we use to generate new synNotch and PUFFFIN neighbour-labelling lines.
They were named after kelpies, creatures from Scottish folklore, and they look pretty on a kelpie micropattern!

What a great feeling; to see the latest issue of @jcellsci.bsky.social featuring interviews from two fantastic scientists *after* I had the fortune of hearing their keynote lectures at the #biologists100 conference! #conferencing is really the best way to feel part of the scientific community! 🧪
@theguardian.com I’d love to know who designed the slides for the contestants?
It's the moment you've all been waiting for... Invertebrate of the year voting is now open! 🗳️ Who will be your winner? theguardian.com/invertebrateoftheyear25
"Cell-estial bloom" Image from Özge Özgüç: A ‘Cell-estial bloom’ of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) flourishes on a micropatterned island. This image presents a colony of live hiPSCs, with fluorescently labelled Lamin B delineating the nuclear lamina within each cell. Acquired with a Zeiss LSM 880 Airyscan microscope, this maximum intensity projection is enhanced with depth-coded coloring to reveal the captivating three-dimensional landscape.
"Dancing actinotroch" by Allan Carrillo-Baltodano: Actinotroch larva of a phoronid worm with phalloidin shown in yellow and acetylated tubulin in magenta. Imaged with a Zeiss LSM 800 at 10 x magnification.
"Who’s active?" by Julia Peloggia de Castro: The image depicts a zebrafish embryo at 9 hours post-fertilisation on a lateral view. Cells are stained with MitoTracker, which labels active mitochondria, and cell membranes are labelled in cyan with a EGFP transgenic membrane tag. Image was taken using a 20x objective on a spinning disk confocal microscope.
🎉Congratulations to the Top 3 images from the Node–FocalPlane image competition!

I absolutely love this beginners guide to scientific conferences by @jens-cells.bsky.social. It's not only useful for beginners either- there is lots of great advice even for those of us who have been attending conferences since the last millenium.

A very hard decision 🙈 but choosing a favourite will help them feature at #biologists100!!
Fly embyro with cells labeled to show heart formation. The heart (cyan) forms from two distant regions of the embryo (far left). These regions migrate to the embryo midline, where they fuse into a tube to make the first heart structure (far right). Precise alignment and pairing of these cells are crucial for proper heart development.
Cells “speed date” to find their perfect neighbors when forming tissues. This marks a pivotal step in creating functional organs, like in this early heart development illustrated in a fly larvae.

I hadn't either—until the Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America asked me to make one! Love this concept of visual storytelling. Let’s gooo! ✨ #SciArt
