Can Europe Stop Elon Musk? He and other tech oligarchs are making it impossible to conduct free and fair elections anywhere.

American social media companies write the algorithms that determine what voters read; moderation systems are opaque; political advertising cannot always be tracked. Do European democracies, or any democracies, really have sovereign elections anymore?

Auschwitz is liberated | January 27, 1945 | HISTORY The Soviet Red Army enters Auschwitz, Poland, and liberates the survivors of the network of concentration camps—and finally reveals to the world the depth of the horrors perpetrated there.

A grim but essential memory: 80 years ago today Auschwitz was liberated. That there was an Auschwitz to liberate is unspeakably tragic. . .

It actually is very important that you do things that you take pleasure in, regularly. That is part of how you survive the things that feel like they are going to destroy you.

Coretta Scott King and the Civil-Rights Movement’s Hidden Women She was far more than her husband’s helpmate, but along with many other leaders of the era, her leadership was hidden in plain sight.

It's really not about leaving the other platforms. It's about bringing people here and giving them more engagement than the other apps.

That's what people want. Engagement. Takes nothing to offer it

If there is a user on another app that you like, DM them and invite them here. Post and tag me

If you think only billionaires can control social media, You are absolutely wrong. Social media is completely dependent on its users. Think about why you do or did use FB, ThreadsTik tok or Twitter. It's because they have enough users. Take away all the "normies" and they all are worthless

Not all of St. Louis is closed. Soulard is not closed. Hammerstone's is open. Other places will be open as well because the owners and/or staff live in the nabe and just walk downstairs or walk up the unplowed street to work.

During a winter storm, always grateful to live walking-distance to open grocery stores. Donuts make kids extra happy on a snowy morning 🍩. Thanks to all the workers who braved the icy roads!

Jimmy Carter, Peacemaking President Amid Crises, Is Dead at 100 (Gift Article) Rising from Georgia farmland to the White House, he oversaw the historic Camp David peace accords, but his one-term presidency was waylaid by troubles at home and abroad.

His post-presidency was seen by many as a model for future chief executives. Rather than vanish from view or focus on moneymaking, he established the Carter Center to promote peace, combat disease and tackle social inequality.
