I admit I have a soft spot for this book. Read it in HS and it blew my mind and it's at least part of the reason I went on to become an R&D biomedical engineer. I'm glad I didn't ever fall deeper into the singularity cult tho, because you're totally right.

A neighborhood near me did a neighborhood spring yard sale and their promotional lawn signs looked like this. Even if someone doesn't know nor care it's AI, can they not see how gaudy and unappealing it looks? That's what gets me about this particular genre of AI art.

From Clickhole's "Incredible! We Asked These Astronauts What It’s Like To Be In Space," Barry Wilmore: You never know true beauty until you see Earth from space, or true terror until you hear someone knocking on the space station door from outside. You look through the porthole and see an astronaut, but all your crew is inside and accounted for. You use the comm to ask who it is and he says he’s Ramirez returning from a repair mission, but Ramirez is sitting right next to you in the command module and he’s just as confused as you are. When you tell the guy this over the radio he starts banging on the door louder and harder, begging you to let him in, saying he’s the real Ramirez. Meanwhile, the Ramirez inside with you is pleading to keep the airlock shut. It really puts life on Earth into perspective.

Honestly I think the rest of us siblings are on the same page about the coolest of the bunch haha. We all love him and care for him immensely, and he returns it in kind (usually lol, he has his grumpy moments just like anyone else too, of course).

David, I love the videos and photos you post of your son with DS! Reminds me of my older brother with DS, he's 35 now and my favorite person alive (no offense to my other siblings of course). :)

Start small. Write in a daily diary, which can even be your phone. Can be anything: poetry, short fiction, essays arguing a position. You just gotta start and get in the habit of going to the gym to build those muscles, so to speak.

Don’t worry, you have gained a follower for asking the tough questions the media is too afraid to ask.

this is my district, i voted today, the Democrat was outspent literally and this is not an exaggeration 10x to 15x by the Republicans who were running TV ads every 15 minutes of the county sheriff saying the D candidate was a literal criminal while the D campaign couldn't even afford yard signs

Ha you beat me to it by like 30 seconds. But yes, those climate control buttons kinda suck, but are at least not part of the infotainment system. bsky.app/profile/benz...

Don't you have an Ioniq 5? Because my 2025 Ioniq 5 has physical buttons for both of those things. Just something for Jacob to consider if interested in that car. Extremely happy with the Ioniq btw. Just a ton of fun and charging up at home has been such a revelation.

"As for depth, measurements occur at the point the baseball crosses the midpoint of home plate -- 8 1/2 inches from the front and 8 1/2 inches from the back."

Wait the strike zone is moving from a 3D volume to a 2D plane? That's interesting!

Yep, getting a Switch 2 actually made it easier to get through some of my Switch 1 backlog simply because Switch games nearly across the board look and play better with the updated hardware.
