🚨New preprint and our results are rather concerning..
We find the "boiling frog" equivalent of AI use. Using large-scale RCTs, we provide *casual* evidence that AI assistance reduces persistence and hurts independent performance.
And these effects emerge after just 10–15 minutes of AI use!

Would immediately return to uni for this one!!😍😍
The trove of files released by the Department of Justice, illuminates Epstein’s deep interest and entrenchment in the scientific community.
But the files also underscore how he used his power and money in ways that kept women out of places where they might succeed. https://bit.ly/4qWgPLz
Elgato Facecam: cheap, good motion tracking outcomes, also would be good for manual annotation, mountable to tripods or essentially anything. We used three, but that depends on the size of the scene :)

So what would a truly holistic model of communication look like? One that takes breathing, posture, and biomechanics seriously. Difficult but necessary 🤓 [5/6]
Even your legs matter. 🦶 Leg movements affect speech intensity, your lower body anchors the posture that frees your upper body to gesture, and conversation partners subtly synchronize their postural sway with each other. [4/6]
Now the arms and torso. 💪 Gestures are often seen as a byproduct of thinking — your brain computes, your hands follow. But arm movements physically pressure the respiratory system and change how your voice acoustics. The gesture shapes the utterance, not just the other way around. [3/6]
Starting at the top: your head literally changes your voice. 🧠 Tilting your head up raises your pitch — because your laryngeal muscles are physically connected to the muscles that move your head. Check out the new paper from @acwiek.bsky.social and @susfuchs.bsky.social in Open Mind! [2/6]
🧵 New paper to appear in The Handbook of Linguistics and Multimodality: “Communicating from head to toe”, with @acwiek.bsky.social and @susfuchs.bsky.social 🥰 We review evidence that language is fundamentally physical, shaped by anatomy and biomechanics from your skull to your soles. 🗣️🦵 [1/6]
A 20-30 minutes discussion will follow that hopefully leaves enough time for questions and comments related to the presented problem. 🧩
We are looking for the first presenter for a meeting that will take place in the first half of 2026. If you are interested or have questions, please reach out 🥳
Each meeting will be dedicated to one person 👩🏽🏫👨🏻🏫 presenting their project and a challenge they have encountered. The presentation should be around 30 minutes long including: what am I doing, what are the methodological challenges or problems I encounter, and questions to the audience.
This meeting aims to create an open and collaborative space where we can:
🔧 Share experiences on how different analysis methods or EnvisionBox modules are being applied.
🧠 Learn from each other’s workflows and insights, and
🎙️Discuss open problems and challenges to find solutions collaboratively.
🚨 #EnvisionBOX alert 🚨
We are pleased to announce a virtual EnvisionBox Community Meeting, designed to bring together researchers who work with computational tools for processing, annotation, and analysis of multimodal data available on the EnvisionBox platform (and beyond).

Thanks @idsmannheim.bsky.social for hospitality, showing us the amazing research you’re working on, and hopefully see you next year at ZAS 😊
… and dungeons full of German offline (!) corpora
We had lots of fun discovering IDS’ infrastructure, including eye-tracking setup, Furhat robot, …
Last week, PhDs from @zasberlin.bsky.social visited @idsmannheim.bsky.social as part of annual networking event between the institutes.

That’s amazing, congratulations! 🥳
Modern research is increasingly collaborative and global, yet project management tools often lack effectiveness. STAPLE is an open-source platform that enhances research workflows. This webinar will cover project creation, task assignment, and contribution tracking. Register: cos-io.zoom.us/webin...
"One of the reasons the epidemic of violence against women is so unacknowledged is because cases like these are talked about individually, and often treated as though they are shocking aberrations rather than part of a pervasive pattern that operates at all levels of society."
And that marks the end of summer fun. Now on to finishing my PhD, see you next year 🤞🥲
Thanks @adw.bsky.social for organizing this affordance-full workshop 👏 and especially for showing us all the guns that are treasured by Leeds Armouries 🤺 /6
Right after, I have explored the territories of ecological psychology at EWEP in Leeds 🇬🇧 I really enjoyed all the discussions and topics encompassing movement, plants, ecological brain and many more 🤯 /5
Thanks to the organizers for putting up this great event! Extremely proud of my dear @marlijnterbekke.bsky.social for all the hard work 💐
Hopefully see you in Hong Kong 🥳 /4
Door (Spruijt) & I are extremely honored to receive the Student Poster Award 🥹 We had loads of fun presenting and discussing our ongoing collaboration on kinematic trajectory from gesture to sign. Stay tuned for more 🤓 /3
It was so much fun to meet all the familiar and new gesture folks at @isgs2025.bsky.social
Also, #ViCom showed strong participation which made the conference somewhat extra cozy 🥰 /2
Another summer full of amazing encounters 🌞
Just arrived home from conferences, the scientists’ favorite alternative to beach holiday 🏝️ /1
