I don’t understand why penalties aren’t consistent… Essex were docked 12 points in 2024 but Worcestershire only got a suspended points deduction in the same year’s Blast. But I’m not aware of any previous incident in a women’s cricket match to compare it to

Yes some do, particularly batters who value quality time in the middle. But bowlers seem to prefer the technical & scenario stuff. Which makes it surprising that both Edwards & Keightley (batters) agreed with Lewis & Robinson (bowlers) on prioritising training over domestic matches

It would be interesting if Capsey was Beaumont’s replacement!

You have to have someone in the team who can keep if someone goes down during the match. The same person can also do it for a game if they get injured during the warm-up

It’s certainly brave to express a strong conviction of how much better you understand the development of elite cricketers…! 😬

You obviously didn’t listen to Edwards on TMS… Although she is keen for players to have some matches for their counties to grow the game & develop depth, she clearly thinks she gets more immediate development of her current squad from scenario training (aka “made up games”)

I agree with England lacking depth, especially in batting. But I can’t see how getting rid of central contracts changes that. I agree they make selection more predictable. But giving international experience to a few average players isn’t the solution either. Depth takes time

No need for a spare keeper for a home series or WC. If Jones gets injured then her replacement is only a couple of hours drive away

And the worry for England is that Filer is a seam bowler & that isn’t where their problems lie. In fact I’d say even in the Ashes & the WC the bowlers were mostly pretty competitive. But as you say, where are the 20-something batters demanding to be selected by weight of T20/100 runs?

52 off 21 would be quite a good indicator of what she can do…!

Ah well, that wasn’t the one…!

Whereas 10 overs of spin are 4/64. Let’s see if it’s as flat a seamers wicket for Bell, Wong & Filer…

And another one… 🙈

💯 and out! 👏
Let’s hope Kemp takes the opportunity to show what a good finisher she can be

It depends which one we think is easier: change the PCA from within, or affect the external negotiations from a separate minority organisation

A £1000 suspended fine is an equivalent level of sanction to failing to pay your TV Licence. Not many employers would sack anyone for that offence!

Perhaps because the players felt that the offence she was found guilty of did not affect her ability to represent them? 🤷‍♀️
The women need more & stronger representation within the PCA, not less

4 weeks ago 1 0 1 0

A better coordinated PCA would be able to say: “we’re not accepting the men’s increase without an equivalent women’s increase” which a WPCA wouldn’t have the power to do. So improving representation within a joint body would seem preferable to several different bodies all fighting different corners

Although my experience of unions in other workplaces is that fragmentation of unions into smaller sections, while better representing their minority interests, have less overall success in collective bargaining than bigger, more powerful groups. So it’s often better to effect change inside the union

And the WCA is just the international union of players unions like the PCA. Which is why the ICC/BBCI can’t stand it… it’s far too representative of the players for their liking!

What makes you think a 2nd union would hold the ECB to account any more than the PCA does? The players (through their elected representatives) already choose the directors & managers of the PCA. So if they were unhappy with what was being said on done on their behalf, wouldn’t we see some change?

🤪😈

There are occasions when you need to manipulate the field and they’re batting on a flat track where it becomes useful. But never in the power play!

And another mindless reverse sweep wicket!! 🙄

1 month ago 1 0 1 0

And 1 dropped catch already! 🙈

Although I wish they wouldn’t play that stupid reverse sweep before they get their eye in. Especially with several overs left on a wicket that has variable bounce & some turn

Villiers did her job of staying there to let Capsey have some fun. At least 177 should give the bowlers something to build pressure on…
