Today is #WorldWetlandsDay under the theme "Wetlands & traditional knowledge: Celebrating cultural heritage."
For migratory birds, wetlands are critical stopover sites and breeding & wintering habitats. Protecting wetlands means protecting the journeys that connect countries, cultures & wildlife.
⿻Marine conservation designations often overlap and duplicate efforts due to similar criteria.
✅A new study highlights the need to streamline and better integrate these designations for more effective marine management.

Today we are attending the @marbefes.bsky.social conference on climate change, biodiversity, and the relationship between humans and the marine environment, where our presentation is focused on the Mediterranean Sea.
Here's a few snapshots 👇 👇 👇
🛳️ In 2023, our colleague Ashley Cahillane asked researchers and crew of the RV #CelticExplorer: how do you interact with the sea? Do you think the sea benefits the society? Should the sea be valued?
🌐 Results of her research on offshore cultural #EcosystemServices are out now: shorturl.at/hzcbE
🌐What can you learn from 40 years of environmental data?
📈Turns out quite a lot, including how pressures have changed over time.
🐟Example: Gulf of Gdańsk has shifted from industrial/fishery to largescale tourism, meaning that key pressures also changed.

🇪🇸 That's a wrap for our 2025 General Assembly!
🔎 We've heard lots of ideas and contributions from all the consortium - and the discussions will continue in the final year of the project.
Thank you @lifewatcheric.bsky.social for hosting us this year, Seville was wonderful 💃
🇪🇸Day 2 of MARBEFES General Assembly is behind us!
🔎Looking into going beyond the project case studies and tools - through outscaling, upscaling, stakeholder engagement, and publications.
🔑Also, a lot of discussions around lessons learned from the project so far.
