On the edge of my seat for the shortlist today. Also, these are good reminders of award etiquette:
I'm assured by writer friends that one good thing you can do to support them is to buy not just new releases but explore their backlists.
Read SF/fantasy? Like queer stuff? I am part way through a project looking at great queer SFF from the 2020s.
2021 is here, and... 1/2

Currently reading The Edge of Space-Time by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein. It’s Physics for Poets, but not in the usual sense of being dumbed down. It’s written using literary, artistic, and musical metaphors that increase accessibility and interest to people who may not usually be drawn to hard science

While everything is absolutely awful politically, three of my favorite authors (SERIOUSLY) are all having book launches today, somehow all at once -
I will thread their own posts!
Given how much I liked the other four, I’m going to have to bump In Universes up higher on my TBR.
My 5th grader came barreling into the house having run all the way home from a friend’s. “I had to [pant] watch the launch with you [pant] because [flails wildly] SPACE!” 🥺🥰
Aw, I love this. And as someone whose kid will be getting a surprise cookie today, thanks for this gentle, pleasant prank!
Spoilers for our next Short Fiction Spotlight (already recorded, comes out in 2 weeks): this was one of my picks.
I really enjoyed this story!
On my cat account I spent a while trying to make Mischief Monday happen. The picture of Calico in the pot is exactly the type of thing I was hoping for. 😆
If you haven't supported yet, there are under 12 hours to go if you want some of those special tiers!!
Just want to say “hi” to the eleven other procrastinators who were looking at @renay.bsky.social’s Hugo Spreadsheet of Doom with me last night. If you are also a procrastinator, you have a couple of short hours left to finish your Hugo nominations!

We need these in Boston. Truck drivers get “Storrowed” on the low bridges of Storrow Drive all the time. It’s the Boston version of big boat stuck.

I'm getting questions about why there are trans characters in my Fantasy novel.
There's a simple answer: trans people don't need to justify existing.
Glad to clear that up!
That was the day the terrible Kansas Driver’s License law went into effect, invalidating the DLs of any Kansan who had changed their gender marker.
I just started The Iron Garden Sutra by A.D. Sui and WOW is it up my alley so far. Podcast episode to come.
