Thanks for this. We've been trying to convey this message to our colleagues in my STEM-oriented institution for years. It's been like banging our heads against the wall. There was no help, no solidarity. Utterly demoralizing. We stand with them now, & *hope* we can rely on them in the future.

"We reject the premise that it is anti-American or subversive to learn the full history of the United States w/its rich and dramatic contradictions, challenges, and conflicts alongside its achievements, innovations, and opportunities."

Fantastic choice. Sarah is smart, tough, creative, and has near unrivaled reach and understanding across our profession.

Now seems like an especially good time to re-share this research about history education in American public schools.

This video has been circulating for a couple years, but it bears rewatching. If you haven't seen it, please take a couple minutes. It's worth it.

For years after, no matter what the conference, it always seemed that he was in the lobby or at registration on the first day waiting to greet me. Kismet, almost. And it became a joke between us. I'll never forget that first simple kindness and the many wonderful conversations after. RIP.

Heartbroken. Peter was the first historian I met--and really talked to--at my very first Southern. I had read his work and was astonished that he would even speak to me!

Are you an early career scholar interested in learning more about what it's like to work at a small liberal arts college? Come to this #AHA25 session first thing on Saturday morning! It will be a chance to chat informally with SLAC faculty about what the job is like at a liberal arts school.

What Are History Teachers Really Teaching Students American high school history classrooms, it turns out, are not run by Marxist radicals intent on indoctrination, but by professionals who are serious about both teaching and history.

“Critics of public schools have accused them of teaching students to hate America…. But a new study from the American Historical Association suggests that such criticisms are overblown, even unwarranted.”

This is important, and needs to be taken seriously by anyone who cares about history education. I'm glad the @ahahistorians.bsky.social put in the time, effort, and resources to create such a comprehensive study that incorporates not just data and curricula, but the voices of actual history teachers
