Sometimes I wonder if people realise that the idiom "the grass is always greener on the other side" (or Travis song, if you prefer) isn't supposed to be taken as a motivational quote to continually seek greener grass.

Independence is just dependence with extra layers of abstraction.
Being 40 means starting to realise how much anxiety has been caused by well-meaning people attempting to save me from myself when I was already happy.
Sure...there are a few different sellers (as always with these kinds of things), but these are the ones I bought:

Four infrared remote controls on acrylic display stands on a shelf: Sanyo TV remote, Panasonic VCR remote (with the buttons in the top section hidden beneath a hinged door), Sony Hi8 deck remote (with distinctive jog wheel), and a Panasonic Digital Scanner (barcode-based VCR remote, in front of its pouch case). A SCART switcher can be seen to the left, just out of shot.
Yup, that works!
I bought acrylic stands to display some calculators I got in that eBay job lot recently. But then I realised I could use them for the remotes that belong to my retro/vintage AV corner (CRT TV and VCRs), rather than having them all unceremoniously stashed away in a drawer.
I reposted it...there was a typo...my own source of national and international embarrassment...Bluesky needs an edit function...

...and having that call come from President Donald Trump.
...just imagine how much of a source of national and international embarrassment it would be, to receive - and have recorded for posterity, and have replayed in future decades - a hugely important and historic congratulatory phonecall on being the first people to set foot on the moon since 1969...
I know the reasons for Artemis II flying by the moon are deeper than this, but the reason I'm glad they're not landing is because...
I wonder if people posting April Fools after midday (in the same timezone) is just a deliberate marketing ruse to get more post engagement from people arguing about whether or not the post is actually an April Fool's because it's after midday 🤔
An open cardboard box with plastic packets containing parts for Vevor telescopic shelving. I'm pointing at the number 8 on a label on a packet containing several metal tubes.
Catchphrase is always on when I finish work lately...think it's gone to my head, now that I'm putting up these shelves...
So...say what you see...what are these? 😛

So a belated thank you to the person who thanked me for the Chunky Fringe live stream six months ago...and bought me not one, but two coffees ☕☕
It was a wonderful (if initially confusing) surprise!
I logged in to @ko-fi.com to support @superpage58.bsky.social's VHS storage fund, as I haven't chipped in for a while (see pinned post on their page)...
...suddenly I'm getting a banner popping up and "Wow, you got your first Ko-fi!" and I didn't know what was going on?!

Do you think I subconsciously created a shrine to my graphics cards because they might be the last "new" ones I'll own for a long time, the way things are going? 🤔
Black floor-to-ceiling telescopic wall shelving with Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card boxes, a PlayStation light (square, triangle, X, and circle in a two-by-two grid), a Pacman ghost light, a plush Sonic The Hedgehog face, a plush purple alien, a plush P&O ferry, and an XR Racing steering wheel and pedals. The room light can be seen in the foreground with a copper spiral lampshade.
Had to take apart my new PC setup to put carpet down...but now that's done, the reward was to finally be able to put up these shelves.
They'll provide a bit of storage, but they're not designed for enormous weight, so plushies, plastic things, and empty boxes are perfect for a bit of decoration.
What if we told you David Hasselloff was a tool of the Western Cold War alliance, while Marillion were unwitting stooges of the Stasi? We explore Berlin's most epic locations to find out the full bizarre story of how music brought down the Berlin Wall:

The question that broke America fundamentally was ‘do all people deserve basic rights?’
This question was too hard for us. Too hard for our leadership. It still is.
So now all of our rights are in jeopardy.
Casio fx-451 scientific calculator, a folding-wallet-style calculator, with a silver main body comprising a solar panel, ten-digit (plus exponent) LCD display, number pad, standard arithmetic functions, and the exponential, mode/shift, and power on buttons, and with the scientific functions separate, on touch-sensitive buttons on the other side of the fold on the inside of the wallet.
Sharp EL-805 calculator: silver body with a black flip-up cover containing the display underneath.
Sharp EL-805 calculator: silver body with a black flip-up cover containing the display underneath. The cover is open, providing shade to the dim display, but also a transparent window so that some light can enter and reflect off the display at an angle so it can be seen.
Casio PF-8000 databank, wallet-style with a black body, silver touch-sensitive buttons, and a large touchpad on the right-hand side.
Bought a job lot of calculators and databanks off eBay, as you do...
Each is interesting, but the wallet-like scientific calculator swung it. Never seen one like it.
Some others were a bit special too, including THE WORLD'S FIRST LCD POCKET CALCULATOR, and a databank with handwriting recognition?!

Screenshot of a notification from YouTube Studio. Cartoon of a birthday cake. Text reads: "New achievement: Your channel is 7 years old today! They grow up so fast, don't they? Congrats on making it this far!"
Happy birthday to my YouTube channel. Seven years on YouTube, and probably not even seven months' worth of content...
...but hey, life's what happens while you're busy making other plans, and there's been a lot of life happening for me. Not everything has to be content.

"Quick, time’s running out to use this year’s ISA allowance!"
Ah yes, I keep forgetting about the thousands of pounds I dropped down the back of the sofa and never got around to retrieving...thank goodness the bank reminded me! 🤣
I did look into target disk mode, but needs rare adapters...either a full-fat Duo Dock (I'd love one, but expensive second-hand plus expensive postage from across the pond), or a Mini Dock (even more expensive and rarer, plus I'd then need a HDI-30 to DB-25 adapter on top).
Ahh, I hadn't been thinking laterally enough...I knew the Duo-compatible BlueSCSI couldn't be a USB to SCSI bridge, but I hadn't thought of getting the full size BlueSCSI and "stepping up" the drive instead...definitely food for thought!
Also didn't realise you were on Bluesky, so dropped a follow.
I don't own anything else SCSI, nor anything else that could interface with SCSI. USB to SCSI adapters seem rare and/or ridiculously expensive. Duo Docks are hard to come by, and would also be expensive, and could need restoration.
USB to IDE adapters on the other hand are two a penny!
I'm not even entirely certain what the point of getting the files on and off actually is any more. I think I just want everything backed up in case the drive goes wrong, and there are e.g. hard-to-find drivers on there, or other nuggets. I know I can replace it with a BlueSCSI, but that'd be blank.
Two classic Mac laptops (PowerBook 1400cs and PowerBook Duo 230) on a computer desk with three monitors (switched off) in the background, and a white ADB mouse between them, plugged into the left laptop.
Been unable to get data on or off the PowerBook Duo 230.
"Just use a classic Mac and use AppleTalk over serial," said the forums. But I didn't own any other Macs...
So I got the 1400cs, but then the trackpad stopped working!
So I got an ADB mouse, and finally...THEY'RE TALKING!
