Been doing webdev for 27 years, and Iโ€™ve never done an interview that involved a live coding test before. I have one today and Iโ€™m bricking it - to me itโ€™s going to feel like having someone staring over your shoulder constantly and I FUCKING HATE THAT. Anyone got any tips?

Liking the look of the Macbook Neo. I kinda wish they'd gone a little smaller though - I loved my old 11" Macbook Air back in the day and got a lot done with it - it was tiny and super-portable, powerful enough for what I needed it for and the battery lasted forever.

Also, compared to other languages (I'm also doing German), Duolingo's Swedish course has no games, only one voice, and way less fun content... try harder, owl. #LaraSvenska

Completed all 45 levels of Swedish on Duolingo. I was a bit disappointed to discover this still only puts me at the lower end of the CEFR A2 level. Anyone got any suggestions as to any other apps/sites/whatever where I could continue my learning? I'm aiming for at least B2 level. #LaraSvenska

Why are there no good Mac desktop apps for Bluesky? I want something like the old T**tter app, that auto-refreshes, is fast and native (unlike stuff like Openvibe and the iOS Bluesky app) and that doesn't require you to log in every time you want to use it (also Openvibe).

Iโ€™ve really been missing Iain Banks recently. Nobody else wrote like him. Iโ€™ve been recommended other authors in the sci-fi space, such as his longtime friend Ken MacLeod, but is there anyone I should be checking out who writes stuff that fans of his non-sci-fi stuff would like?

Binary Pulse - Voyager (Music Video)
Binary Pulse - Voyager (Music Video) YouTube video by Binary Pulse

I am feeling the need to amplify an excellent Australian band I've been listening to a lot lately - they're called Binary Pulse, and this song is sublime.

"We are only the cosmos dreaming of itself".

Watching Starfleet Academy. One episode down and liking what I see so far. However, that new 60th anniversary intro sequence, with the various starships... no Cerritos? No Protostar? Especially when the Protostar and Gwyndala get a well-deserved callout in the first ep? #StarfleetAcademy

New year's resolution: Use Bluesky a bit more and be a bit less of a digital hermit.

Took the Christmas decorations down last night. The place always seems more dull afterwards. I wish there was an acceptable Christmas tree-like decoration that you could keep up year-round, with decorations, lights, etc, to brighten the place up.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but, given I'm in the Diamond League (the highest league) this means I'm currently the fifth-highest ranked person on Duolingo in the world as of last night? #LanguageNinja

Just watched the trailer for the next Avatar film. Looks spectacular, as you might expect. But something about James Horner's theme music absolutely wrecks me every time. Doesn't just pull at your heartstrings, it forcibly attaches them to the back of a speeding train and lets rip.

Need to get back to using this more. Been spending most of my time over on Threads, but it's starting to fill up with some of the same unsavoury types that everyone was running into all the time on Xitter.

Duolingo people - I've been doing Swedish on there for a little over 2 years, and am near the end of section 2. What is the CEFR grade equivalent? I'm thinking around B1-ish...?

To be fair, they haven't been selling all that many cars in the UK anyway. The UK cottoned on to the fact that there's cheaper, better options if you want an EV a while back. The UK has also not put tariffs on Chinese EVs i- the Chinese-built MG4 is the UK's best-selling EV.

Being both British and Irish, I have divided loyalties when it comes to sports. I'll always support England in football, but it's always Ireland in rugby. And they're playing a blinder today. #SixNations

Catching up with the Fire Aid concert. Whoโ€™s that playing fretless guitar with Joni Mitchell? It sounds amazing. And so does she, for 81โ€ฆ

I'm sure. There were lots of reasons, none of which were actually anything that would benefit the people of Britain.

Five years ago, the UK opened up a septic, suppurating wound on itself that shows no sign of healing. Based on lies, xenophobia and the desires of rich tax-avoiding scum.

We now have a government with no Leavers in it.

FUCKING SORT IT OUT, STARMER. #Brexit #Breturn

But no. Now heโ€™ll be remembered as an unstable, far-right edgelord manbaby who took what goodwill he had and flushed it down the toilet. What a waste.

With his money, Musk could have cured diseases, pulled people out of poverty, brought peace to warring countries and lifted the world up in a way that nobody else has done before. He could have had things named after him all over the world, and been one of the most admired men in history.

Reeves plans to create โ€˜Silicon Valleyโ€™ between Oxford and Cambridge Chancellor to announce plans to improve infrastructure in region to put it at forefront of science and tech advances

Where would this be then? Right between Oxford and Cambridge are the likes of Luton, Dunstable or Milton Keynes...

I could probably attempt to 3D-print something but I don't know any 3D modelling / CAD software that well - not really touched anything 3D since 3DS Max back in the late 90s!

Can anyone point me in the right direction for where I might be able to find adapters to make a set of 1/4" guitar knobs fit on a 4mm pot, and a 1/3โ€ knob to fit on a 6mm pot? These are for dual-concentric pots.

Already did. Alas, my MP is Chris Philp, and he's utterly immovable on the matter.

OK, not going to bother with the Skeets app any more. It has a horribly annoying auto-complete feature that I can't seem to turn off.

Iโ€™m guessing that Zuckโ€™s new fact-checking fuckery (ie, complete abdication of responsibility) will only apply to the US? No way heโ€™s getting away with that in the EU. Theyโ€™ll shut him down.

Myspace is currently owned by a company called Viant - wondering if it might be for sale if the right buyer came along?

TOM, WE NEED YOU.

So Bluesky is the more open alternative to the birdsite. After Zuck's latest ill-advised cucking to Tr**p, what would be the alternatives to Meta's other properties, like FB and Insta?

Maybe it's time for someone to pull Myspace out of mothballs? ๐Ÿค“
