Do you support people to explore their neurodivergent identity? Please read the Position Statement on Diagnosis from Reframing Autism
reframingautism.org.au/position-sta...
It calls for co-designed measures that are responsive to intersectional complexities experienced by Autistic people.

The best gift I can imagine 💗
There's still plenty of time to treat yourself to this excellent neuro-affirming stocking-filler penned by neurodivergent humans. I see no reason not fill your boots and your brain-bodies with ideas of new ways to develop a nourishing practice 💕

#BIPOC voices are often missing from autistic spaces, so here is a BIPOC starter pack! 😊

The image of autism as “only white boys” leads to underdiagnosis, discrimination & isolation for many
Our autistic community is much more diverse than that! ❤️
Interesting read, thank you. I have wondered why RSD seems to be considered exclusively in relation to ADHD, and not to other neurodevelopmental differences such as autism, but you have explained this very clearly.
Very excited to listen to this conversation between such interesting humans ✨
This is wonderful! I just had a search for mosaic books and there is a sea creatures one, which pleases me greatly.

If you’re wondering if you might be Autistic but ruling it out because some of the diagnostic criteria don’t apply read on.
Initially Autism wasn’t considered a likely explanation for my difficulties because I was married, employed, seemed to cope with change, and had social skills.
If you are an occupational therapist who wants to deepen your understanding of neuro-affirming practice AND walk your dog at the same time, I highly recommend the Two Sides of the Spectrum podcast by Learn, Play, Thrive

A black and white Boston terrier dog sits on a yellow blanket with its legs curled and tucked under its body. A well loved small toy lion sits next to the dog.
This dog's crisscross apple sauce front legs stance triggers ultimate cute aggression in me.
Gorgeous film that gives me the glimmers. Thank you @autisticrealms.bsky.social for posting.
I used the 'block account' function today. Friends, I can confirm the sky is much bluer as a result.
An upward shot of several brown Mycena mushrooms growing on the side of a mossy log, the edges of their caps are illuminated by the gray light of the winter sky #mushroomsky #fungifriends
Here are some nice mushrooms
I think that they use a particular lens to analyse the movement, which guides their argument in a particular direction, for sure.
I was promoted to reflect on this after reading Ocean Vyong’s poem ‘Old Glory’ (a confronting read). We think nothing of this language when it’s casually used within its particular context. But the violent nature of it is inherently still true.
Language I avoid using: casual references to violence when congratulating others (like ‘you killed it, knock them dead’). You may not know what past experiences your listener has had.
A brilliant watch @jceoltasmith.bsky.social, well done!
Devastating language is being used to describe people who deserve care, compassion, and benefits. If people saw how chronically ill people are, and they are still refused help, they wouldn't believe it.

Rosie Jones on Season 18 of UK Taskmaster is so joyful to watch. My face hurts from all the laughter.
A white human hand holds the book Empire of Normality, Neurodiversity and Capitalism by Robert Chapman.
Empire of Normality by Robert Chapman is a phenomenal book that takes a Marxist approach to neurodivergence. Interested in occupational justice? Read this book.
I just finished reading Empire of Normality this evening. It is a tremendously valuable and important book. Now off to consider more deeply how neurodivergent workers can organise as neurodivergents to radically change structures of the workplace, as opposed to exploiting neurodivergent workers.
This sense of “embodied coherence” is something I have been trying to articulate for myself with regards to being ‘in’ and ‘as’ experiences. I was looking at Romain Rolland’s definition of oceanic feeling, but holotropism is more accurate.
This is fascinating. Definitely worth a read.
Imagine these kinds of ideas being introduced and explored during autism assessments instead of the deficit based approaches we have now.
Thank you for sharing this. The sense of “embodied coherence” is something I have been trying to articulate for myself with regards to being ‘in’ and ‘as’ experiences. I was looking at Romain Rolland’s definition of oceanic feeling, but holotropism is more accurate.
Last year saw the launch of The Adult Autism Assessment Handbook, the first serious attempt to provide an in-depth guide for anyone conducting adult assessments for autism.
Written from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective, it talks about monotropism in some depth...

An absolutely essential read for anyone working with adults to explore their identity in relation to autism.
Right! Your thoughts remind me that neurodiversity and diagnosis is so intertwined with capitalism and neoliberal values, such as prioritising independence rather than interdependence.
Yes, I strongly agree with this. I think it is common for historical diagnoses not to be reevaluated unless the person themself advocates for it. It makes me wonder how many older people aren’t getting the right kinds of support as a result.
