Proyta safety razor blade
A quick rummage in Dad’s garage came up with these lovely 1930s razor blade packets ( blades still inside but very rusty) - why they were there is a mystery though!

Had a great time last night at BFIs screening of the pilot episode of Twin Peaks on 35mm. Looked great on the big screen and still one of the best ever tv pilots. Great intro as well with some scans from Radio times when it aired, love this character chart.

Picture of a almost finished plastic model of the red seaplane piloted by Porco Rosso in the titular film.
Finally getting around to building this model kit from a Japan trip 3 years ago. Been a while since I’ve done a traditional glue and paint kit rather than snap build but relatively pleased with it.

Semi succesful BFI LFF ticket haul today. Couldn't get the big screenings I had earmarked but I can catch them at a later date. More pleased I secured two smaller interesting films that I would otherwise struggle to see theatrically.

Inside the Archive: Star Wars in Technicolor | BFI
YouTube video by BFI
Brilliant video by the BFI exploring the original film print of Star Wars. Maybe one day will get to see it on the big screen (didn't succeed in the ballot for this screening)

A light blue diagram depicting the sea, with the water's surface at the top, and just below it is an outline of the Mary Rose, with the depth (12m, 40ft or 6.7 fathoms). There is a line showing the seabed, which takes a rapid dive into the vertical...
On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,
"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"
Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

The main hall of Coventry Guildhall. The ceiling is decorated with numerous bosses and the end of the room is dominated by a 500 year old tapestry.
Ceiling with decorated bosses including angels, swans and elephants.
Floor tile
Memorial dedicated to Coventry firemen who died in the Blitz.
Had a very nice tour of St Mary’s Guildhall in Coventry today, a rare survivor of Coventrys medieval past. The included mulled wine went down very well!

Had a fun time with Gladiator 2. Not in the same league as the original but still a very good time at the cinema with some impressive spectacle.

Photograph of a page from The Sunday Times Magazine, 10/11/2024, with a colourised photo reproduced in a 'This week in 1918' feature.
The reproduced photo shows female nurses in uniform standing at the railings of The London Hospital in Whitechapel on Armistice Day 1918 waving flags and celebrating. They are wearing floor length dresses with aprons and caps, and the dresses have been colourised light blue. In fact, probationer and staff nurses at the hospital at this date wore a lilac coloured dress.
Nooo! Stop colourising archive photos if you dont have actual evidence of original colours! (Or just stop altogether, actually...)
Sent this today - original not from our collections, but definitely London Hospital nurses. Uniforms colourised light blue, not the purple they would actually be wearing

View from ridge of LCT 7074
On my way back to London from a short break in Chichester and Portsmouth. A highlight was seeing the restored LCT 7074 at the D Day story museum. Fantastic restoration work and interpretation, well worth a visit.
