Zohran Mamdani and Mahmoud Khalil Are In on the Joke What it feels like to laugh when the world expects you to disappear.

At a comedy show, Mahmoud Khalil told Zohran Mamdani, “I am excited about the possibility of raising my son in a city where you are mayor.” It was a stunning moment, Hanif Abdurraqib writes.

The Working Families Party has fought for a more affordable New York for decades. I am honored to lead their slate as their first choice for Mayor.

Our city is done with the corrupt politics of the past and ready for a new generation of leadership. Let’s win it together.

I’m asking for your donation. But it’s not for me.

To defeat Andrew Cuomo and turn the page on corruption, we need strong candidates in this race like Speaker Adrienne Adams.

NYC, give what you can before Monday night’s deadline!

ICE Deports 3 U.S. Citizen Children Held Incommunicado Prior to the Deportation

Families disappeared and isolated without legal access; one child with cancer deported without medication and pregnant mother deported as well

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 25, 2025

CONTACT: media@aclu.org

New Orleans, LA – Today, in the early hours of the morning, the New Orleans Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Field Office deported at least two families, including two mothers and their minor children – three of whom are U.S. citizen children aged 2, 4, and 7. One of the mothers is currently pregnant. The families, who had lived in the United States for years and had deep ties to their communities, were deported from the U.S. under deeply troubling circumstances that raise serious due process concerns.

ICE detained the first family on Tuesday, April 22, and the second family on Thursday, April 24. In both cases, ICE held the families incommunicado, refusing or failing to respond to multiple attempts by attorneys and family members to contact them. In one instance, a mother was granted less than one minute on the phone before the call was abruptly terminated when her spouse tried to provide legal counsel’s phone number.

As a result, the families were completely isolated during critical moments when decisions were being made about the welfare of their minor children. This included decisions with serious implications for the health, safety, and legal rights of the children involved – without any opportunity to coordinate with caretakers or consult with legal representatives.

These actions stand in direct violation of ICE’s own written and informal directives, which mandate coordination for the care of minor children with willing caretakers – regardless of immigration status – when deportations are being carried out.

Both families have possible immigration relief, but because ICE denied them access to their attorneys, legal counsel was unable to assist and advise the…

Experts Push Back on RFK Jr’s Infection Comments The new Secretary of Health and Human Services has made claims about measles and other communicable diseases that could lead to sickness, and even death, his critics claim.

The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services has repeatedly claimed: “If you’re healthy, it’s almost impossible to die from an infectious disease in modern times.”

That is dangerously false.

Time is now. Not a few months before the next presidential election. We need a lot of people running for office, supporting candidates, holding politicians accountable. At all levels of government.

This morning, while I was still in Albany, a group of our incredible volunteers and election attorney Ali Najmi submitted petition signatures of 36,966 voters to get my name on the ballot for New York City mayor.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Hungary has banned pride events and is allowing authorities to use face recognition to find the people who attend.

THIS is exactly the future we’ve been warning about as a movement to ban government use of face recognition has been working tireless to ban it at the local and state level.

Cuomo paused to listen to my question about Mahmoud Khalil, the Palestinian activist arrested by ICE this weekend — but he didn’t answer, just saying “I’m sorry”

He was absolutely surrounded by aides fighting to keep reporters away as he left the union endorsement event.

If you wonder how countries slip into dictatorship, it’s like this.

Amidst another flurry of news, an official adds at the end that Trump has signed an Executive Order saying that “only the President or Attorney General can speak for the US…as to what the law is.”

What?!

I’m not a believer in a religious sense, but I believe in people even if I find them mostly annoying 😂.

if our ancestors can overcome all the shit they went through, we can totally deal with Trump and President Musk. We just got to put in the work!

Totally support remembering the lessons of the Holocaust and fighting antisemitism today, but can we have some balance? Trump and Netanyahu are talking taking over Gaza and not allowing them to come back to their home. We can apply the lessons of WW2 to be critical of Israel’s war crimes.

I’ll also be the first to tell you if the United States is beyond help, but it is not. Democracy still works if we teach ourselves and use the mechanics of our government. Our biggest enemies are apathy, privilege, and lack of knowledge.
