ICYMI: I did some #ocean 🌊 #science 🧪 vlogs from the #RAPID expedition to study the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. The #AMOC keeps northern European climate temperate so understanding how it may change should be something we all care about.

Hi Miguel. We have the calibration process starting now we have all the data. Obviously that takes a bit of time, but we will release the data with a doi and a public update to the RAPID timeseries by September.
I was not the only one learning - here's a link to Alex Thomson's piece on @channel4news.bsky.social where he does a great job of discussing why we are here

Link changed - this one should work now!
If you want to find out a bit more about my experiences at sea I have posted a few more short clips

Yesterday was day 4 of our #RAPID expedition and we have been making fantastic progress recovering #AMOC moorings. And I got to see a HUGE pod of dolphins. Heaven!

On board the RRS #Discovery as we recover the moorings from the #RAPID array to study the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation #AMOC. But as the #BBNJ becomes reality I am reminded how much we need #ocean #observations.

On the aft deck of the RRS Discovery as we prepare to lower our first CTD of the expedition.
And we are right into it. Our first CTD cast, measuring temperature, salinity and oxygen down to 1500 m. Still excited!
We are here to learn more about the Atlantic Meridional Circulations.
The #AMOC moves warm water from the tropics and to northern Europe and keeps our climate nice and temperate (not that it probably feels like that this week back in the UK!).

Excited as we leave on the #RAPID expedition.
I am really looking forward to spending some time at sea, getting involved in some of the science and really getting a feel for what observational oceanography is all about. #ModellersAtSea
Doing wet chemistry 5 km below the sea surface? Of course, we can do that! Take a bow @noc.ac.uk engineers.

Thanks to our lovely host Mercedes Villalba MSP, and @gillianamartin.bsky.social Cab Sec. Great to speak with politicians who really value science to inform their decisions! @mastscot.bsky.social Scottish marine science has a long and proud history and it was a privilege to hear about it from you.
Calling ocean lovers, budding biologists, tech enthusiasts and nosy locals! We have your Sunday sorted!
In celebration of #WorldOceansDay you're invited on site to learn more about the ocean through our live talks, technology demos, interactive displays and activities.
We'd lobster see ya there🦞
Yesterday we hosted govt stakeholders, industry leaders and friends of NOC at the House of Commons for our One Ocean networking.
Thanks to @barrygardiner.bsky.social MP for sponsoring the event, and to Tristan Osborne MP and CEO @johsid.bsky.social for inspiring guests about future collaborations.
Our CEO Dr @johsid.bsky.social gives insight into the premiere of David Attenborough’s Ocean at Royal Festival Hall last night, where ocean science took centre stage! 🌊

A table showing the number of imes teams have won the Premier League in ascending order. The sequence goes 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 - the first seven terms of the Fibonacci sequence.
As Liverpool win the Premier League for the second time, they complete the opening of a quite remarkable sequence, 33 years in the making.

That’s weird - contrails caught in turbulence? People at the @metoffice.bsky.social love a bit of cloud action. Sure they’ll be able to help.
It was great to hear more about the government’s plans for English devolution. At @noc.ac.uk we are acting locally in providing exciting opportunities that are of national and international significance. Devolution could unlock even more of that potential for Southampton and wider region.

It’s important for good governance of the marine environment that independent guidance from

Let’s explore 🧪👇
That view going along the coast past Teignmouth and Dawlish is stunning. One of my favourites. But you are now going to have to post some from #Malaysia - decent scenery here too!
Imagine the moment when someone said - you know what, why don’t we stick sensors in orbit around the earth to measure our environment. And satellite remote sensing was born.
Could this be as transformational? An exciting prospect.
NOC was delighted to host a marine research roundtable onboard #RRSDiscovery, organised by the British Embassy in Lisbon. 👥
The roundtable helped further the dialogue between UK and Portuguese researchers to explore future collaborations and to discuss the UN Ocean Decade.
