Super exciting to see @omaryan.bsky.social nominated alongside such a great group of scientists…extremely fortunate to work with such amazing people! Thanks to @hellobio.bsky.social for organizing this initiative! 🧪🔬🧠
Happy #FluorescenceFriday from these primary astrocytes grown on glass slides and robotically stained on the Biocare Oncore Pro X! 🧠🔬🧪
Cyan = GFAP
Royal Purple = ALDH1L1
Salmon = Nuclear Counterstain
Happy #FluorescenceFriday from this #Alzheimers microglia - captured and reconstructed on @zeiss-microscopy.bsky.social Airyscan 2
So fun working on this project with @megan-hager.bsky.social 🧠🔬🧪
Yes! I can direct you to this paper from a previous trainee in our lab who did some extensive characterization of this!

Not in these specific cells (which we use just to grow up the viral stocks) but yes absolutely in murine brains!
Happy #FluorescenceFriday from some Vero cells showing signs of cytopathic effect following infection with RFP-WEEV. Post-encephalitis arbovirus exposure has been shown to recapitulate many of the clinical features of #Parkinsons disease making this a very useful model in the Tjalkens Lab! 🧪 🧠
Don’t miss the Best #Postdoc Publication Award in #Toxicology 🧠🔬🧪
Would love to see some entries from #MicroscopyMonday or #FluorescenceFriday contributors!!
We had such a fun time recording this episode for the Dementia Researcher podcast 🧪🧠

Wow, impressive work!!
Salmon - DAPI Cyan - GFAP Violet - ALDH1l1
Happy #FluorescenceFriday from more astrocytes!
Today, I am highlighting two unique markers of these glia in an image revealing cells expressing different levels of each marker. We study how these different populations of astrocytes respond to toxic insults in #Parkinsons & #Alzheimers disease 🧪🧠
Cyan - GFAP Salmon - DAPI

For this Bluesky #FluorescenceFriday I am sharing an overview and zoomed version of my favorite cells (primary cultured astrocytes) used to study #Alzheimers and #Parkinsons diseases in the Tjalkens Lab 🧪 🧠
Exciting and timely work!!
