a swarm of bright purple flowers next to a tree trunk with a small bit of dead brown ivy

stone flowers on an old headstone, covered in the green patina of life. date inscribed above the flowers: feb 27 1895
large magnolia flowers beginning to open
in focus is a carved stone angel writing in a book behind a blooming yellow bush in the foreground blur. the statue's pedestal is obscured and it's left leg is raised to support the book, making it look like it's climbing a ramp of blurry yellow flowers. a large tree in the background is dark and leafless.
as the popular saying goes: false connections are the magical residue of dimensional reduction

a distant stand of thin white birch trees embedded in a cloud of their new yellow seeds/flowers
a heavy branch of bright white blossoms in front of a blurred background of dark leafless trees
at mt Auburn cemetery yesterday

a half circle of blossoms lit by the sun. behind are more layers of blossoms in shadow
looking up into a canopy of backlit blossoms
a proud palm warbler with a bright yellow belly and a russet cap, standing on a branch and looking up for insects on the trunk
a palm warbler in the middle of a bush that is just beginning to sprout bright green leaves
closeup palm warbler, a lil blurry after suddenly landing on a branch right in front of me

manual-lens bird photography is a fun challenge
a swarm of tiny blue flowers in light and shadow
an eruption of tiny red leaves in clusters on a thin tree branch.
small ruddy-pink blossoms crowded together on the end of a skiny twig of a branch
these are on a sickly lil tree in the neighborhood. blossoms are only on one area. the rest of the tree looks dead...
they are the most beautiful blossoms I've ever seen

looking through windows at an outdoor seating area outside some cafes. everything is bright and sunny and ppl are walking by and sitting around peopling
foreground: a small weeping willow (?) in bright green new leaves almost too tiny to see. in the blurry background is an all glass skyscraper, boston style (tall...but not too tall) against a cloudless blue sky
cast-iron emergency exit stairs on a brick building cast a long and interesting shadow across the bright wall.
yesterday 5 pm downtown boston

a bright mural of a young girl on a green background on the 2nd floor of the side of a brick building. in the foreground is a blurry bus-stop sign for the #1 bus.
a patchwork of garden lots awaiting spring, with weathered wooden posts and boards at all angles
looking down a street of brownstones. the buildings are partially obscure by a line of cherry trees that are just entering bloom.
looking past a garden plot with a wood and wire fence to a distant stone bridge and above that an even more distant set of brownstones with metal flashing covered in a green patina. nothing is growing or sprouting yet except for two yellow green trees blooming either side of the stone bridge.

in/around fenway victory gardens
a wood power pole in focus in the foreground; a group of blonde-brick buildings in soft focus in the background
a bare stick in the sun. no flowers. no buds.
4 or 5 dried husks like thin white bones
a stand of narrow birch trees shedding their papery skin in low-focus
a mess of yellow catkins in low focus against a deep blue sky
almost spring

a grackle on s feeder with a very messy beak
close-up crop of the head of a grackle in profile. bits of crushed seed cling to the side of their beak.
a gracke walking around a feeder with a peanut in its beak. their head is slightly blurred and their black scaly feet and wing are in focus
a grackle in bright sunshine standing on a feeder
a grackle with a feeder to its left, looking right with a half peanut in its beak. the tail is purple; its coverlets are rose and gold. wingtips have a crimson hue and the back feathers are gold and green. the hood is bright ceramic blue
in direct sunlight, the only black on a grackle is in the center of their eye (beak and feet don't count)

yes yes YES!
the first blossom opens on a tree. bright sunshine pours through the pinkwhite petals as they open. multiple unopened blossoms can be seen in the blurry background.
in focus on the right are two signs on a large metal pole. on top is an old faded blue sign reading "Old Cambridge Historic District" below that is a new shiny "2 HR PARKING" sign with a green arrow pointing both directions. in the background blur is a bright sunset sky and on the left a blurry brick building with a tall square bell-tower catching the sunset on its right face
the gloaming in a very old cemetery with thin featureless slate headstones scattered across a close-cropped lawn. an old brick walkway catches the late-day light and almost glows as it snakes across the image from lower right to upper left
lovely but still not quite spring-like... and it's meant to snow tonight...

a big old weeping willow tree prepares its foliage, hanging in bright green streamers over yellow grasses
layers upon layers of bright yellow stalks in a micro-wetland in a local park (danehy). in the background is a modern house with bright white trim creating triangles behind a screen of still-leafless trees
two very green buds on a tree, about to blossom. the green petals are covered in fine 'hairs' making the slightly fuzzy
looking down at a pair of children's galoshes sitting on a low stone wall. they are rainbow striped with yellow inners.
standing on top of the hill in danehy park. in hard focus left-of-center is a tall exhaust pipe that keeps the hill from exploding (not really but...kinda) and in the distance in soft focus is a tall steal-beam radio tower.
today a walk to danehy park

a grackle in full profile with it's feet facing different directions as it walks around a feeder towards a sparrow who's desperately eating while he can
starlings battling on the left of a feeder as a grackle approaches from the right. everyone is slightly motion-blurred
a grackle in full profile looking left on a feeder. on the right is a starling that's just arrived and a female sparrow who is quickly departing as the larger birds take over
a grackle in profile looking right on a feeder. behind it on the left side is another grackle flapping a wing madly to stay on the feeder
mayhem at the feeder

4 Sparrows on a feeder, eating quickly while watching for larger birds
3 Sparrows on a feeder. the male on the left has a seed in his beak and a female on the right is checking him out
and in between the flurries of larger birds, the sparrows filled their beaks

a very spotty starling on a feeder watches as another starling flies off. the flying starling is obscured by an extremely blurred branch of a nearby bush
a determined starling walks around a feeder, looking for a chance to grab some food (to prevent squirrels/rats, the feeder opens and closes based upon weight. there are more starlings out of frame and the feeder is partially closed)
a combative starling rises up to its full height and puffs out its head feathers in hopes of keeping its spot on a feeder as another curious starling looks on.
when the grackles took a break , the starlings had a go

a grackle peeking out from behind a feeder with half a peanut in its beak. in shade it's color is subdued but you can still see a blue hood. and of course, the bright yellow eyes
a grackle walking along a circular perch around a feeder. blue hood and yellow eyes with a rough gold/copper mid section
grackle at a feeder, turning to look at the camera, it's wide tail splayed. the blue hood becomes emerald green before becoming copper/gold on the back while the wing feathers have a distinct magenta cast.

proving once again that the time of dinosaurs was most likely bursting with shimmering color and rainbows, not swamp-green lumps of drab.
structural color does not fossilize . . .
