There are times when the British political-media class is incomprehensible.

This is one.

Why are commentators discussing Starmer & Mandelson while ignoring what was already reported in September 2025?

Peace Treaty between russia and Latvia (1920):

"russia recognizes the independence of Latvia and forever renounces all sovereign rights in relation to the people and land of Latvia"

At this point, all illusions that Trump’s America would help Ukraine have dissolved. But most people don’t realize how deeply the current administration is steeped in pro-Russian sentiment and activities.

Here’s a quick look. Trump administration and their pro-Russia or anti-Ukraine positions:

Clean energy pushes fossil-fuel power into reverse for ‘first time ever’ - Carbon Brief Renewable energy has overtaken coal to become the world's largest source of electricity in 2025, according to thinktank Ember.

While generation from fossil fuels has occasionally fallen year-on-year in the past, Ember says this is the first time it has happened due to the structural shift towards clean power, rather than due to economic crises or other one-off events www.carbonbrief.org/clean-energy...

China, India place strategic bets on clean energy out of favour in the West In the rolling, wind-swept grasslands of Chifeng in northern China's Inner Mongolia, towering white wind turbines line hilltops like sentinels over a hydrogen industry Beijing is trying to prise away from coal.

I love straw matts. It's a no-brainer to produce and use them everywhere as affordable and performant insulation. The machinery and raw material is really inexpensive. Hungary:

In two to three years time, when Starmer and his government are no doubt deeply unpopular, I hope we in the media will ask ourselves: "Why were we so supine during the long 2024 election; why didn't we hold Labour properly to account while we could, and ask more probing questions, and explore their records, rather than give them such an easy ride?"

I think we can see the reason for this is the same as any number of abysmal scandals at all kinds of major British institutions: Nobody wants to go lifting rocks because of the very high risk that moving one of them will send a geyser of scalding hot corruption leaping two hundred feet into the air.

Why did BBC Breakfast give Reform UK a special graphic? A small detail in a brief report sparks some big questions about what the national broadcaster is doing during the run up to local and national elections.

Shocking stuff from the compromised head of BBC News.

It’s as shocking as knowing about the vast sums that the criminal Trump Family enterprises are making.

No surprise at all.

But diplomats and analysts warn that Starmer may already have missed his opportunity for a grand pivot to Europe. Time is running out, both for negotiations and also to show voters any real economic benefit from closer links to the trade superpower across the English Channel.
EU officials openly doubt Starmer’s ability to deliver, as he fights to stay on as prime minister and Nigel Farage’s poll-topping Reform UK party vows to tear up any “reset” with Brussels. “We have a list of 10 priorities that are far higher,” says one diplomat from the bloc.
In Westminster, the question is whether the prime minister’s overture to Europe is a serious effort to inject fresh momentum into talks with Brussels or merely a tactical move to placate Labour backbenchers increasingly frustrated by his timidity on the issue.

IV. The UK has to change, ultimately. Otherwise there is nowhere else substantial for this to go
V. European bandwidth is limited and the UK is proving complex. It needs to be easier to deal with. It also needs to drive the reset process, not wait for invites

Cracking article in the FT and really good summary of positions.

Some quick points
I. It is probably too late for Starmer, but is it too late for Labour
II. Rhetoric has changed in the UK, but UK politics has yet to catch up
III. Equally though, is the rhetoric representative of anything real?

Chris Mason is indeed a tossed. However, the Mandelson story absolutely needs to be pressed because it is yet another indicator of the dodgy dealings that politicians routinely engage in. Cronyism is fine if an old mate has done you a favour, no matter how many times he has disgraced himself.

I'm just relieved nobody is talking about how I said I bought a house in Clacton, then admitted it was in the name of my girlfriend, Laure Ferrari, even though she couldn't afford £885,000, which conveniently meant I avoided £44,000 in tax.
Please don't share.

So China & Tesla don’t steal all the headlines, Volvo Trucks (Volvo Group) quietly put 5,000+ electric trucks into real-world deployment, logging 100+ million zero-emission miles over the past five years.

Not under Geely. Not hype. This is happening. EV trucks are scaling everywhere, all at once.

First saw this story over on Threads, and people really, really, really did not like anyone correcting misinformation about their misreading of the story. We seem to be moving to some sort of post-reality where people just want fake stories that reinforce their beliefs.
