The treasured postcard of a Black Arrow launch I had as a child (brought it back from the Science Museum which had an actual Black Arrow you could touch, if memory isn’t playing tricks) was surprisingly formative in many surprising ways, looking back. So I’m keeping this episode to savour later.

It is me, being endlessly fascinated by (and enjoying) the process of publishing a book. Now I am signing something that existed for a long time only in my head and was then brought to life exactly as I imagined it by Philip.
I am… still… on my way. Next train is the Sleeper from Inverness to Birmingham then Derby. The highly appropriate loco on the front is 66729 “Derby County”. I assume they knew that’s where I was headed. #CRA26 @communityrail.bsky.social
Have set off on my travels to @communityrail.bsky.social’s Community Rail Awards this morning at sunrise on the ferry, leaving beautiful Orkney behind and hoping to get to Derby tomorrow early afternoon. I seem to be in advance of the hashtag so hoping it’s #CRA26 or #CRA2026 or something.
