When most people get new music/art passed by a friend, they’re like “cool thanks” but the fragile egos out there say “I’ll be the judge of that.” Then race to dismiss it on YT comment threads, scoffing at us lessers for our lack of knowledge.

To musicians, the skill level is a spectacle unto itself. To non-musicians, they somehow make catchy grooves amidst microtonal madness. Their sense of fun and creativity is infectious. It’s the sound of having fun, a sound we’ve almost forgotten.

When I read an overly critical take, I can’t help but hear the voice of Comic Book Guy.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter if it's a complete stranger, it always makes my heart ache knowing someone is going through this. It's hard to imagine being happy, but someday some of your happiest and most grateful moments will be in remembering him.
