This is not border protection. This is terror. And US citizens are not exempt from being the targets, either. My words in the LA Times last month: www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...
I hope @rolandgarros.com is taking notice of this scintillating WOMEN'S match in PRIME TIME
America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.
Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.
😭
people come up with all kinds of fanciful math to justify billionaires' wealth but imo present political moment demonstrates conclusively that we need to tax billionaires at whatever rate will keep them focused on their own fucking business rather than our Medicaid and pediatric cancer research
It’s a terrible bill. It will literally kill people. The most vulnerable among us will suffer as the wealthiest benefit. It’s perverse. I wish there were something I could do. But alas, I am only a U.S. Senator from Alaska whose “no” vote would kill the bill. So I voted yes. You get it.
STAGGERING: This new study of 133 countries is the first to estimate the impact of all USAID’s work. In 2 decades, it has saved *92M* lives. Current cuts, if not reversed, are forecast to cost up to *14M* lives thru 2030. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...
This is exactly how librarians have been blamed for cuts to library budgets for decades. "You didn't do enough to communicate your value." What that really means is "you don't make any profit, and profit is the only legitimate value an organization can produce."
A meme. In the first frame there is a T-Rex from Jurassic Park pictured with the words "DEMOCRATS FIGHTING ZOHRAN MAMDANI." In the second frame there is an image of Barney the Dinosaur shrugging along with text that reads "DEMOCRATS FIGHTING DONALD TRUMP."
True story.

A joy to march in NYC Pride with the people's champ Tish James 🏳️🌈

"Be able to afford to live!" is now leftism and socialism in the USA lol
the Big Beautiful Bill is extremely unpopular, fiscally disastrous, callous and cruel and devastating to Americans in need. And still we have national Democrats out on the Sunday morning TV shows criticizing their own party's mayoral candidate.
A real wakeup call. Something's gotta give.
Zohran Mamdani is saying things like “poverty is a policy choice and politicians have a duty to their constituents to make their lives affordable” and it is making a lot of politicians very very scared that they may actually have to start doing some actual service in their public service jobs.
“This article shows how interlibrary loan, conceived as a form of academic traffic, played a crucial role in postwar reconstruction efforts, facilitating the xchg of resources + info among libraries… [It] focuses on the elaborate procedures librarians developed to create union catalogs.”
“It takes a lot to pull one over on New Yorkers, and when we looked around, the city described in Cuomo attack ads simply did not exist. We recognize that the city’s problems come mostly from the people above, and not the ones sitting next to us on the subway.”
Moving to the center is how you compete for the tiny sliver of Undecided likely-voters.
Doing the right thing is how you inspire the millions who don't usually vote.
This is a travesty & a nightmare. The US was a founder of @gavi.org. It lowers global vaccine costs, has vaccinated 1B children, & averted 19M deaths. This pull out will cost 100s of thousands of children's lives a year - and RFK Jr will be personally responsible.

The dismantling of the research apparatus that made America the science and tech giant it's been over the past century is the greatest own-goal in history. We haven't even begun to calculate or feel the losses
If we’re really resetting to 2003, can we at least get the $500 rent back too?
I am begging people to realize you can care about multiple things and believe in the liberation of multiple groups of people at the same time.
Being for liberation for all isn't contradictory. It's intersectional.
AI bot scrapers are hitting every site on the web in search of training data. This report is the first good attempt to evaluate the impact of these AI scrapers, especially on smaller institutions that are trying to make their collections open to the public www.404media.co/ai-scraping-...
I’m sorry if ur uncomfortable with the fact that California is in Latin America but actually I’m not sorry this is the world we live in these are the people who live here it’s beautiful grow up
Hell is empty,
And all the devils are here.
🔥 LA PROTEST QUEEN 👸 TO ARMED NATIONAL GUARD IN LA: “This is how ridiculous you look!”
*Puts on a dinosaur costume* 🦕
THEN: “What the hell is this? You’re Americans, aren’t you? Put down your weapons, don’t follow these fascists.” 🇺🇸
(Someone pls buy her a drink on us)
kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes
That's my union!! 💪💪💪💪
Ursula K. Le Guin: “The exercise of imagination is dangerous to those who profit from the way things are because it has the power to show that the way things are is not permanent, not universal, not necessary.”
