Best of all, judging from the ruby slippers GIF, you read the footnotes!

“The sovereign authority to decide which powers states grant to the corporations they charter includes the authority to not grant their corporations the power to spend in politics.”

I'd been pretty pleased with how my big Citizens United report for CAP came out—it sparked a ballot issue & legislation in 14 states, could change American politics, all that.
But now there's basically this *graphic novel* version! *This* is the way it should have been published in the first place.
I can see that!

This is fantastic! As the report's author, I am delighted to discover the graphic novel version of my report, particularly this graphic, as it is one of my all-time favorite GIFs. This is the way it should have been published in the first place. Thank you!
Two very different ways to ease your worried mind.
At DAR Constitution Hall to see David Sedaris. Somehow, this Daniel Webster quote seems kind of like a threat these days.
Hmmm. Trump read part of II Chronicles 7 for his verse. Which passage might have been more appropriate?
That’s the biggest, loudest laugh of my entire day. Thank you.
the fact that he’s using it for propaganda makes me regret ever painting this
At this point I think Trump is as curious as the rest of us to discover how far is actually TOO far for Republicans.
I hate when fantasy films I made a long time ago begin to come true in real life.
For more than two centuries, the Supreme Court has affirmed that states have broad authority over the corporations they create.
States can use that power to cut off corporate and dark money in politics at every level.

ACLU members have been furious about this for 16 years. Lots of people quit over their support of Citizens United.
Yessss.... Well, if you're in a position to let them know that they should support this, or want to make some noise about it, that could help!
All eyes on Hawaii: The state is one step closer to getting corporate and dark money out of politics—and further than any other state has gone toward making Citizens United v. FEC irrelevant. Watch this space for updates.
I'm working on them!
It’s my favorite moment on any day that I fly — right after I show my boarding pass to get onto the plane. There’s almost nothing I can do to screw up at this point.
It’s Taco Tuesday and, of course, it’s also TACO Tuesday. It’s kind of pathetic the way Trump so predictably walked back from his insane threats, though I’m glad my country is not committing genocidal war crimes tonight.
From Hawaii to Rhode Island, all 50 states have the power to remove dark and corporate money from politics, making Citizens United irrelevant. Learn more from CAP's @thmoore.bsky.social: www.americanprogress.org/article/the-...
Almost! Don't think of it in terms of rights -- think of it in terms of *powers*, and yes, narrow the state's grant of powers to its corporations.
Thanks!
Good to see you back, Steph.
In March 1994, Jen and I ignored all advice and drove three hours from Oakland to Chico, California (all the way through California wine country), hoping to see the Sierra Nevada brewery, only to find that it was closed on Mondays. Thirty-two years and one month later, I finally made it here.
An upcoming Montana ballot referendum would deny corporations the power to spend in state and federal elections.
If it passes in deep red Montana, it could pass anywhere. State by state, this could effectively nullify Citizens United. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1fPbGHe3xE

The basic difficulty in staffing the Trump administration is that yes, you can find people who honestly believe Trump won the 2020 election. But such people are apt also to believe, for instance, that they once teleported to a Waffle House.
Look, man, if you’re going to be fighting a holy war for Christ over Easter weekend, that’s a separate discussion.
But while you’re doing so, could you at least spell “rain” right, or misspell it in some other way that doesn’t suggest you think you’re a king?
We may never know, because I’m not going to watch the video again to confirm this one way or the other, because life is short, and I don’t recommend that you do so, either, but I processed that as pear and burrata of some sort. And I totally agree with you.
It was last November...
