I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.
And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.

Having emotionally vulnerable discussions on the internet isn't always easy.
I often think "time to stop talking about the deep stuff and protect myself"
Then I get a comment like this. Or one that tells me how much it resonated/connected with them
And I think yeah. That's it. That's why I do it.
"i want ai to do my dishes and fold my laundry" idk man id be pretty worried it would like fold my cat in half or something
And yet, things aren't changing fast enough in this industry to make it non-hostile. Non-men with intersectional identities experiencing it at a huge rate; non-white, disabled and/or queer people are massively disproportionally affected.
The games industry has got to change.
There are exceptionally brilliant people in this industry; community members, games industry professionals. Those who fight for equal opportunities & speak out when they witness inequality. All genders who uplift each other. Men who call fellow men out for their sexism & help change things. I see it
Going to conventions and speaking at events, having organisers assume, that a man in my physical proximity were "Kolo", were there to speak, even men that I wasn't with or talking to
It can be intentional, it can be a non-conscious bias; both must change. Non-men take the stage in gaming too
But the thing that got me the most was the assumption. The there was only one possible reason for my success; that I had slept with a man.
It wasn't due to my hard work, incredible supportive community, the best moderators I could ask for or my business mind. It couldn't possibly be that... right?
It was massively intimidating, purposefully nasty. Would they have done this to a man? claimed a man had only achieved success by "sleeping his way to the top"?
It affected me deeply & nearly pushed me off the internet.
Things are not changing fast enough to protect women in the gaming industry.
They created new channels with intentionally similar usernames, doctored images of me and spread them online, publicly & personally attacked me, attempted to doxx me, all while also flirting with me, attempting to solicit explicit images of me, & asking "how much for you to come to X hotel with me"
Appalling, and yet, I am shocked at how un-shocked I am at this.
When I was partnered on Twitch & my YouTube channel was growing for the 1st time, a group of men started a smear campaign, claiming my success was exclusively because I'd "slept my way to the top" with someone at Twitch.
