It was exciting to talk to Sara Nelson and Bernie Sanders about their new plan to strengthen and expand organized labor. It's pretty straightforward: give workers money.

Today is day 1
There’s a union buster conference going down in Tampa…Ybor no less.
My great grandfather was a unionized cigar roller in Ybor back when it was still a Spanish/Italian/Cuban neighborhood. Union busters can go to hell.

The CUE, formerly known as the Council on Union-Free Environment, will be convening in Tampa this weekend to discuss the 'u' word, labor policy...and it will also, apparently, feature a “highly realistic” simulation of a union organizing drive led by a LuluLemon rep www.cltampa.com/news/tampa-c...
Oh neat! I just moved here a few years ago for a job with the Weekly, but as often as I do think about leaving Florida broadly, I do like Orlando.

Ford's Garage is now paying servers at select FL restaurant locations $0.01/hour plus commission.
Yes, that's a single penny. Yes, it's legal. And they're not the only restaurant group that's doing this.

According to an annual financial disclosure report filed with the U.S. Department of Labor, Amazon reportedly spent $26.6M last year on 'union avoidance' services.

I am just imagining that I lived in a country that had at least as many free clinics as Taco Bells
“I believe that women deserve a choice, and that choice is life," Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback told me in an interview after drawing hundreds to a late-night campaign rally at an Orlando-based Taco Bell www.orlandoweekly.com/news/orlando...

Sounds familiar.
this is my district, i voted today, the Democrat was outspent literally and this is not an exaggeration 10x to 15x by the Republicans who were running TV ads every 15 minutes of the county sheriff saying the D candidate was a literal criminal while the D campaign couldn't even afford yard signs

Records filed with the U.S. Department of Labor show the Forth Worth Report hired LRI Consulting, the most active union-busting firm in the country, at a rate of $425/hour in mid-February to persuade journalists not to unionize with the @newsguild.org
They voted to unionize anyway.

Noticed a longtime anti-union labor consultant filed a report with the feds back in Jan., disclosing $500K in payments made to subcontractors for 'union avoidance' gigs in 2025.
Thing is, he died last year. So who signed the form under his name? caringclassrevolt.substack.com/p/union-bust...
The politicians and activists pushing these attacks are part of a well-funded and coordinated nationwide effort to remove trans people from public life.
We can fight for the future our families deserve. Resist these attempts to push people into the shadows based on who they are or who they love.
In addition to talking points for HB 743, emails I obtained through a records request show a lobbyist for Do No Harm also wrote an op-ed in support of the bill. It was later published word-for-word by FloridaPolitics under both the Senate and House bill sponsors' names.
Gender-affirming medical care is already banned for trans youth (and restricted for adults) in FL under state law. This new bill would have added more teeth to that. Still, despite advancing in the House, it failed to get a floor vote by either chamber before the end of session.
New: Records I obtained show Do No Harm, a national group fighting "gender ideology," emailed draft language + talking points to the sponsor of a FL bill (HB 743) this session that sought to penalize anyone who aids or abets gender-affirming care for youth www.orlandoweekly.com/news/florida...
